A Mary T. Hoffman Commentary from

"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful.  At the same time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.

Power Corrupts (Continued) – 25 October 2006
By Mary T. Hoffman

Yesterday I wrote briefly about political electioneering. Today I want to mention that Congress, even after all the negative publicity about lobbying, has done nothing to stop the taking of gifts from lobbyists, who number about 66 per each member of Congress. It is obvious that most politicians are out of touch with the interests of their constituents, and have allowed themselves to become corrupted.

What I consider to be particularly egregious behavior is for politicians to play the “religious” game in order to assure their election. To get the vote, all they have to do is assure their “Christian” constituents that they are “pro life.” (Of course by “pro life” they mean “unborn human life” only.) The hypocrisy is so obvious I don’t know how these crooks can keep a straight face and resist laughing as they speak before their audiences of “suckers” who are such easy pickings.

The pastors of “Christian” churches provide the brainwashed “sheep” in this unholy alliance of political corruption. These willing “sheep” are led to believe that there are absolutely no other choices available at election time but the ones their pastors approve; and that anything negative they might hear about these “Christian” politicos is simply to be dismissed as a lie from the “liberals.”

We need to take responsibility for ourselves, for other animals, and for the environment. We need to wake up and stop being led by these self-serving charlatans. If we keep them in power, we’ll only have ourselves to blame as they continue to allow God’s creation to be destroyed by their short-sighted greed and arrogance. We need to vote for the most qualified candidates, regardless of their political party affiliation.
