The Souls and Spirits of Animals
Submitted by Debra Stitt -  23 January 98

I was very moved by Frank Hoffman's E-Mail on The Souls and Spirits of Animals.  I too believe that there is more in our Lord's message than what is going to be done for we humans. All of my life I have been very sensitive to animals. I am 40 now and grew up in a time when killing animals in science class was the norm. I had to be removed from my biology classes, etc., because I simply didn't have it in me to hurt any creature. The Lord says, "Thou salt not kill." I have always taken this very seriously. He didn't say, "Thou salt not kill humans." Our Lord, Jesus Christ, was the ultimate sacrifice. His death created a new covenant wherein sacrifice and killing was abolished. He suffered for us all.

In my daily walk (and I know I'm not perfect), I do my best to stop and think -- is this something Jesus would say or do? If my answer to this question is no, then I really have to rethink my direction.

Press on Christian friends, press on. As Paul said in Philippians 3:13: "But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus."

Our Lord wants us to be meek and kind. The meek shall inherit the world. I don't believe He ever said that the strongest and fittest shall survive.
