Dear Kim:

We hadnít heard about this, and it doesnít sound right.

Weíve never heard of seagulls attacking any other bird in flight, though if the doves landed in the midst of a flock of seagulls, they very well could have been attacked, since seagulls can be very territorial. However, their attacks would most likely only be to chase them away, and not to kill them for food.

Seagulls are usually feeders of opportunity; they eat whatever they find, but we believe we have heard that they will eat the eggs and babies of other birds in roosting areas. And, they eat small live and dead sea animals they find along the shore line.

One shopping center we go to have flocks of pigeons and seagulls feeding on what people drop on the ground, and the flocks are never together.

We donít know the whole story, but it sounds more like this wasnít something the Pope wanted to do, but that he was asked to do as part of a celebration. And, no one thought about the consequences of such an action.

In the Love of the Lord,

Frank and Mary
