1. Activist Feedback
Ornella writes:
Dear CVA,
I want to tell you about the booklets that you have sent me and the impact
that it had to the people around me. It may be small but for us, here in
North East where people eat pretty much everything it's a huge thing for
us.
I distributed as much as I could – to my office, on the streets, people
around me, and also sent some to my home town.
First, my daughter read it and she turned vegan. So did my best friend. And
my maid decided to turn vegetarian. My nephew gave up meat too. My
co-worker who is always been a hard core nonvegetarian started having only
vegetables but told me that she still eats milk products sometimes but she
will give it up soon.
My grandparents turned down offers from the government to have a pig farm.
As they feel that one should not be responsible for taking lives of any
living beings. They are vegetarian now.
So, I'm here to say, “Thank you.” That booklet alone made a lot of
difference in a people around me.
God Bless You.
2. Original Sin, part 32 – The Prophetic Voice
As discussed in the previous essay, having a prophetic voice can be
challenging and sometimes even dangerous. Those with the courage to speak
truth to power generate enemies and often pay a price. Tragically, people
generally fail to listen to most prophets, and most of those prophets who
have an impact are recognized for their wisdom and insight long after they
have died. Fortunately for humanity, each generation has prophets who see
injustice and rail against it. When the times are right, prophets are heard.
We who speak for exploited animals have a prophetic voice. Countless
nonhumans are victims of extreme injustices, and yet most members of our
society express few concerns. Indeed, most people provide essential
financial support for industries that brutalize innocent creatures. Our
denunciation of these crimes rarely wins us friends or provides financial
benefit. More commonly, the opposite is the case. Yet, many of us are
compelled to speak out.
In future essays, I will consider what the Bible says about prophesy, and
how we might be effective prophets in our communities.

[Comment: Item #1 above on this page illustrates that sometimes our prophetic voice yields
fruit!]
