2. Featured Books from Vegetarian Advocates Press
Guided by the Faith of Christ: Seeking to Stop Violence and
Scapegoating by Stephen R. Kaufman, 257 pp., $14.
Based on the essay series published between 2004-2006 in the CVA
e-newsletter, this book discusses the origins of violence and
scapegoating and shows the ways that the Judeo-Christian tradition can
help us transcend these human tendencies. When violence toward animals
is taken into account, humanity harms far more individuals today than at
any time in the past. Addressing violence is crucial for the billions
who suffer unnecessarily today, and for the survival of human
civilization.
Every Creature a Word of God by Annika Spalde and Pelle
Strindlund, 162 pp., $18.
This remarkable book relates Spalde and Strindlund’s nonviolent
struggle to liberate animals from confinement, and it reviews the
writings and stories of the many Christian saints, leaders, and faithful
lay people who helped God’s creatures.

3. CVA Activism
Rick, leafleting at a Relient K concert in St. Louis, writes: I
leafleted 360 CVA booklets at this Christian concert this evening with
mostly kids 12-17 attending.
Steve, leafleting at Acquire the Fire in Cleveland on Nov. 1, writes:
This is an event for youth, and the kids were very receptive to my
literature. I showed the booklet cover, said hello, smiled, and said,
“About Christian compassion and stewardship.” I distributed 330 copies
of Are We Good Stewards of God’s Creation?

4. This Week’s Recipe
Shana’s Easy 3 Ingredient Vegan Chocolate Pie
3 ingredients:
1 bag semi-sweet choc chips (I use Ghiardelli)
1.5 cups vanilla soymilk (I use the refrigerated Silk Vanilla
soymilk)
1 pre-made pie crust (I use regular Keebler Graham)
Dump chocolate chips into blender. Heat the soymilk (either in the
microwave or on the stove – I use the microwave) just to boil. When you
see a few little bubbles popping up, pour soymilk over chips in blender.
Immediately blend for a few seconds – you should see air bubbles in the
mix. Pour into pie crust and chill until firm.
I like to top the pie with raspberries or cut strawberries. The
tartness of the berries is a nice contrast to the sweetness of the
chocolate filling..
