1. Activist Opportunity
These are some of the best leafleting opportunities in recent years.
Pope Benedict will be at the following events:
Washington D.C. - Thursday, April 17, 10:00 a.m. The pope will offer
Mass at the new Nationals Park in Washington. This will be the first
non-baseball event in the park, and Catholics from around the country
are making plans to attend.
New York City - Saturday, April 19, 9:15 a.m. Mass at St. Patrick’s
Cathedral in the heart of New York City.
New York City (The Bronx) - Sunday, April 20, 2:30 p.m. - HUGE! Crowd
of 55,000+, at least 10 volunteers needed. Mass at Yankee Stadium will
bring this historic visit to a close.

2. Activist Feedback
Casey writes: "Annetta and I leafleted at Lakewood Church in
Texas on Easter Sunday and distributed 900 Even If You Like Meat (a
Vegan Outreach publication) and 625 Are We Good Stewards of God’s
Creation (a CVA publication) booklets.
A couple of people stated that they are now vegetarian, one from a
CVA and another from a Why Vegan? booklet that they got in the past. We
have given out about 5,000 CVA booklets, 8,000 Why Vegan booklets and a
few Even If booklets in the past. Today we got turned down about 50% of
the time, but that was good since it was mainly due to people having
gotten it in the past.
Despite mostly positive feedback, one mid-aged man challenged the
idea and even seemed to care little when I informed him that it can
reduce world hunger and is extremely abusive claiming basically that
anything was okay. I told him to read it since I didn't want to waste
time when hundreds would be missed during the time talking to him. We
leafleted before the service when they trickled in so we would have time
to offer 1 of each booklet per family rather than waiting for the flood
of people at the end out. There are tens of thousands at this, the
largest church in the country, which features the nationally televised
show Joel Osteen. We have a public sidewalk right by the entrance/exit."
3. Commentary on Animal Souls
I think anything that loves has a soul. No one knows, and I will not
pretend to know. What I do know is this: when I die I hope to go to
heaven. When and if I get into heaven, whatever heaven is and wherever
that may be, if I can't find my dog Arthur, what is supposed to be a
joyous occasion will be a sad day for me. But just because I believe
that animals could have souls doesn't mean that I believe they are just
like us culturally and socially, nor do I believe that we need to treat
them as such. Animal marriages make no sense. Do animals have souls? I
don't know, but I absolutely hope so and believe so.
