Activist Report
Don Gwillam reports on
CVAUK’s tabling at the Vegan Fayre in the UK in June:
The CVAUK stand at
the Vegan Fayre was very successful, and we were warmly welcomed by the
organisers of the show. They were pleased to see that 'at long last' at
least some Christians were becoming vegetarian/vegan and showing
compassion for animals, this sentiment was echoed by many visitors to
the stand.
Your leaflet
'Honoring God's Creation' was very popular and although we only offered
a copy to those who showed interest, we handed out over 200 booklets.
Visitors to the
stand fell into three categories:
1. Vegan
Christians who were delighted to discover us.
2. Secular vegans
who were looking for spiritual encouragement.
3. Secular vegans
who had relatives or friends that were Christian but who refused
to acknowledge that a vegan diet could be part of their response towards
caring for God's creation.
A vicar and two
lay speakers from other Christian organisations stated that they wanted
to address Christian vegetarianism within their church/meetings and were
pleased to discover so much information on the subject. Another
Christian lady was in tears when she described how her church reacted to
her desire to become vegetarian and eventually felt obliged to leave the
church.
We all enjoyed the
show and would like to thank CVA USA for their sponsorship. During the
two days we survived by sampling numerous vegan products. The fayre was
situated in a very picturesque position within the old Bristol docks.
Bristol was the centre of the slave trade in this country, so the
docks would have been used by slave traders.

Are Farmed Animal Reforms Helpful (comment)This
is a response to the discussion "Are Farmed Animal Reforms Helpful?". I
feel that Miyun Park of Compassion Over Killing summed it up nicely "If
we ignore opportunities to help reduce their suffering until we're
presented with a proposal that eliminates animal agriculture as a whole,
we'll have allowed billions - possibly trillions - of animals to suffer
needlessly. I'm not willing to accept that."

What are the top three
states for CVA members? Tie-breakers will be order (1-3) and the state
