Deep Compassion
Gary Steiner, a professor of philosophy at Bucknell University, and author of “Animals and the Moral Community: Mental Life, Moral Status and Kinship” argues that the killing of animals for human consumption is ethically wrong since the intelligence of a cat and a human, for example, is not of moral significance. Both creatures exist for their own reasons and should enjoy that same right of not being exploited. Steiner calls everyone who is eating turkey this Thanksgiving to ponder on the short and miserable life these animals had, thanks to us "intelligent, compassionate humans".

God calls us to be compassionate and merciful toward all Creation, and this Thanksgiving holiday the center of our meals should not be an animal who was killed for profit and taste, but a thankful attitude for all the tasty and varied plant-based foods available to us.
