New Information about NFL’s Tony Gonzalez
Thanks to one of our sustaining members, Barbara A. Holdeman, who is
a Certified Nutrition Consultant and Natural Health Educator, we learned
that NFL's Tony Gonzales is not a vegan or vegetarian as the article
published on the Take Heart! issue on Feb 12 implied (The
247 lb. vegan).
As follows you'll find the correspondence of Ms. Holdeman and the
writer of the article, Mr. Albergotti:
"I appreciated your story about Kansas City Chief's Tony Gonzales.
One thing I found disconcerting is that he is being called a vegan. Tony
is not on a vegan diet as he is consuming fish and other animal products
(in a protein supplement). Vegans do not consume animal products
including fish, chicken, eggs or products made with any of these items.
I worry that the term vegan is not being represented correctly and
therefore meat eaters that are eating health foods will call themselves
vegan."

"Thanks for reading, and for your thoughts. Tony Gonzalez
attempted a vegan diet, but he and his nutritionist decided eating some
meat was the best thing for his performance. It was not our intention to
imply that Mr. Gonzalez currently eats no animal products. Again, I
really do appreciate you taking the time to write."
Thanks and all the best,
Reed
