1. Bird Flu Pandemic: Why Factory Farming Could Be Blamed
This is the first part of a great 2-part interview (part 2 will be
featured tomorrow) with Dr. Michael Greger, Director of Public Health
and Animal Agriculture at The Humane Society of the United States, in
which he clearly explains the many deep concerns about factory farming
in relation to the much feared bird flu (H5N1) virus. Dr. Greger
discusses the possibility of a bird flu pandemic and its devastating
consequences, given that this virus has 60% mortality of those it
infects. Of course, factory farming, as Dr. Greger explains, increases
the chance of this happening because of its aid to help viruses spread
and combine very rapidly.

When we cause misery to others, including God’s animals, misery comes
back to us. Once again we are reminded of the simple fact that our
actions have consequences. Factory farming is devastating and unless we
find a way to put an end to it, we will continue to witness and
experience much suffering.
2. This Week’s Famous Quote
You can’t be neutral on a moving train.
~ Howard Zinn (1922 – 2010), American historian, academic, author,
playwright, and social activist.
3. Deadly Bacteria: Factory Farms Are The Reason
In the second part of Kathy Freston's interview to Dr. Greger, he
discusses E. coli, Salmonella and other worrisome pathogens that enter
our food supply and subsequently infect hundreds of thousands of people
in the US every year, many times with fatal consequences. Dr. Greger
explains the role of factory farming in the increasing rates of food
contamination by these bacteria.

It seems hardly real that the US and so many other countries rely on
factory farms to produce food for their people in spite of the
devastating consequences for our health, God’s animals and the
environment. Factory farms are the perfect vessels for bacteria to brew,
combine, mutate and spread; however, most people still support these
hellish facilities where God’s animals are exploited and tortured solely
for their taste. It’s time to wake up! And we, Christians, should be at
the forefront of this movement to end factory farming in behalf of God’s
Creation.
4. This Week’s Bible Verse
(RSV) 2 Corinthians 13:11
Finally, brethren, farewell. Mend your ways, heed my appeal, agree
with one another, live in peace, and the God of love and peace will be
with you.
When we seek reconciliation, restoration and healing, invariably love
and peace permeate in our lives and onto God's Creation.
5. Former Buffalo Bills Player Adopts Dr. Esselstyn’s Diet
Adam Lingner, former Buffalo Bill player from 1987 until his
retirement in 1995, had been diagnosed with a clogged artery putting him
at risk of a heart attack. Following his stent procedure, Lingner
decided to keep his arteries clean by following the plant-based diet
recommended by Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn.

It’s sad to hear of anyone who battles a disease; however, Mr.
Lingner is a good example by showing that many times the alternative to
medication or surgery is simply a well-balanced plant-based die, that
not only does it help to prevent many chronic diseases but to also
reverse them.
6. This Week’s Video: Rev. Heng Sure, PhD
Both religion and culture have influences on our choice of diet. In
this short video Rev. Heng Sure, PhD, discusses how our local churches,
temples, synagogues, etc. have a lot to do with the foods we choose to
eat.
