1. Is Eating Animals A Social Justice Issue?
Melanie Joy, Ph.D., Ed.M., author of the acclaimed book titled "Why We Love Dogs, Eat Pigs, and Wear Cows: An Introduction to Carnism", writes a fantastic piece about the need to address the eating of animals as a social justice issue. Dr. Joy emphasizes that carnism is a violent ideology, heavily influenced by culture, and fueled by justification and denial.

Exploiting God’s animals for food indeed falls into the social justice category, because irrespective of ethnic origin, gender, possessions, race, religion, species, etc., all sentient beings should be treated equally and without prejudice. Sadly, God’s farmed animals are routinely exploited relentlessly and unnecessarily.

3. More Nonsense In Rationalizing Factory Farming
Paul Shapiro, Senior Director of Farm Animal Protection for The Humane Society of the United States, challenges the indefensible excuses that supporters of factory farming lean on, and more specifically the force-feeding of ducks and geese for foie gras production. He emphatically dismisses with clear evidence that animals don't enjoy suffering or gladly give themselves up for our pleasure and profit.

Humans and animals alike are God’s creation and therefore share the same essence. This belief alone should lead us to be mindful with our treatment of God’s farmed animals, which in turn requires us to show compassion and mercy towards them.

A steward is someone who’s been entrusted with something valuable. We are indeed stewards of God’s Creation: our bodies, animals and the environment. However, as believers in the teachings of Jesus Christ, we have also been entrusted with the privilege and responsibility to be good stewards of the gospel of Jesus Christ, a gospel of love, compassion and mercy.
I believe that the best way to show we care about and embrace Jesus’ teachings is to put them into practice, so it is through our lifestyle, choices and actions that people can observe what it truly means to be good stewards of God’s Creation.

Counting Animals is a fantastic blog that aims to collect, generate, analyze, organize, present and interpret quantitative information related to the animal advocacy movement.
