1. There’s Much Suffering in Small Farms As Well
Factory farms
are barbaric to the animals and most people agree about this fact.
However, small farms are not suffering-free, as the public usually
believes. This article does a great job explaining why some practices
at small free-range farms cause much pain in animals, too. For
example, the affixing of septum rings in pigs’ noses, which causes
pain and lifetime discomfort, is considered necessary so pigs don’t
root (which they enjoy doing constantly) and destroy the landscape.

on Small Farms, Too
When God’s animals are raised for food they
become a commodity and their status as sentient beings and amazing
creations of God is lowered. Once an animal is seen as a commodity,
he/she cannot possibly be allowed to live his/her life fully, as God
intended. Only when we see animals as our fellow creatures we may live
in harmony with them.
2. Famous Quote
Man is the only
animal that can remain on friendly terms with the victims he intends
to eat until he eats them.
~ Samuel Butler, English composer,
novelist, & satiric author (1835 - 1902)
3. Always Choose
Kindness
We live in a world where there’s much suffering and
unkindness but also where many people choose kindness. This article
emphasizes the importance of being kind even when we see others acting
unkindly or when others are unkind to us. Choosing to be kind reflects
our values and beliefs, and helps make this world a better place.

importance of being kind in an unkind world.
Jesus’ teachings
emphasize kindness and compassion. When we choose a plant-based diet
we are being kind to our bodies, kind to God’s animals and kind to the
planet we all share.
4. Bible Verse
(RSV) Colossians 3:15
And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you
were called in the one body. And be thankful.
We are all children
of a loving God and everything in Creation shares the essence of this
love. When we do unnecessary harm to any of God's creatures we are
creating fear and violence. On the other hand, when we show love and
compassion to God's creatures we are creating peace and harmony.
5. PED Virus Causing Havoc
The Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus
(PEDv) has claimed the lives of 5 million pigs in the US already since
last May. The pork industry is having a hard time controlling the
spread of the disease and has already suffer a decrease in the demand
of pork. Moreover, the disposal of dead pigs is serious issue that is
already causing alarm among public officials and environmentalists.

Nothing good comes from confining, abusing and killing God’s
creatures. The emergence of new viruses and bacteria is just one
negative aspect of the animal agriculture industry.
By not
supporting this industry we are taking a strong stance against abuse,
disease and environmental degradation.
6. This Week’s Video: A Cow and His Toy
Humans have assigned categories to animals throughout history, such
as “pets” and “livestock”, according to our benefit; and these
categories allow for vast difference in their treatment. However,
animals are not much different at the time of enjoying their life.
This short
video of
a cow with a new toy shows that those that we eat play and enjoy life
as much as those we pet.
