1. Factory Farms and Superbugs: A Very Scary Reality
The
mere fact that 80% of antibiotics in the U.S. are used in livestock
should raise a red flag. Despite that the National Pork Producers
Council claims that existing regulations "provide adequate safeguards
against antibiotic resistance," the Centers for Disease Control has
issued a report stating that this overuse of antibiotics in farmed
animals is a leading cause of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

CDC Reveals Scary Truth About Factory Farms and Superbugs
Factory farming is able to exist because of antibiotics; otherwise,
God’s farmed animals would not be able to survive the cruelty, the
disease and the unsanitary conditions that are the norm in factory
farms. Let’s all take part in making this world a healthier and more
compassionate place by not supporting the animal-based agriculture
industry and instead adopting a plant-based diet.
2. This Week’s Famous Quote
"A large and convincing body of
evidence from studies in humans . . . shows that diets low in
saturated fatty acids and cholesterol are associated with low risks
and rates of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease."
~ U.S.
National Research Council, in "Diet and Health, Implications for
Reducing Chronic Disease Risk"
3. The Typical American Diet is Making Americans Sick
"The
average person consumes 20 pounds more in total fat yearly than in
1970, which partly explains why the obesity rate among adults has more
than doubled since then, when only 15 percent of Americans were
obese." It's obvious that the typical American diet, full of animal
products and therefore saturated fat and cholesterol, is not conducive
to health. A higher intake of fruits and vegetables seems to be the
best way to curb obesity and other diseases.

The vast majority of
chronic diseases that people suffer are more likely to be caused by
the food they eat and not by their genes. By the same token,
transitioning to a well-balanced plant-based diet is what could bring
them back to health!
4. This Week’s Bible Verse
(RSV) Proverbs 19:1
“Better is a poor man who walks in his integrity than a man who is
perverse in speech, and is a fool.”
Indeed, dishonesty and
lack of integrity don’t help us to follow God’s will. Instead, it
allows us to take advantage of others, which causes suffering.
5. Some Facts about Milk
We live in a society where
billions of dollars in publicity and marketing shape the food choices
of most people, and the case of cow’s milk is an good example. Sadly,
parents continue to feed their children dairy products without knowing
how unhealthy these products are for them. Cow’s milk contains
estrogen, saturated fat, cholesterol and IGF-1, all of which
contribute to obesity, diabetes and certain cancers.

The Sour Facts About Milk: What Every Parent Needs To Know
Cows produce milk for their calves. When we go against God’s wisdom,
we invariably have to deal with the consequences. In this case the
consequences are much suffering to God’s cows and their babies,
disease in humans caused by the consumption of dairy, and devastation
of the Earth by dairy factory farms.
