1. USDA Program Continues to Fail
The meat inspection program that the USDA wants to implement in pork plants nationwide in order to increase the speed of processing lines by as much as 20 percent and to cut the number of USDA safety inspectors at each plant in half continues to show flaws and problems, especially failing to reduce meat contamination.

Of course, finding more ways to increase the speed at which God’s animals are slaughtered might seem efficient, but at the end, it only creates misery to these animals and to humans. Humanity doesn’t need more animals to be killed. We need no animals to be killed and for compassion to be extended to all creatures. This is the way to make this world a better place.

2. This Week’s Famous Quote
“Animals are my friends, and I don’t eat my friends.”
~ George Bernard Shaw

3. Eggs Linked to Heart Disease Once Again
A new study reported in the New England Journal of Medicine says eggs can increase the risk of heart disease because of the way they are digested, much like meat. In the case of eggs, it is lecithin in them that raises the risk of heart disease due to its effect on intestinal bacteria. When you eat an egg, bacteria in the gut help convert the lecithin to TMAO. It turns out that those people with the highest levels of TMAO in their blood had a "2.5-fold higher risk of major adverse cardiovascular events" compared to those with the lowest amount of TMAO.

Eggs are certainly not needed in a healthy, balanced diet because they are high in cholesterol and saturated fat. Moreover, eggs are produced in ways that hens and their babies suffer egregious cruelty. Replacing eggs for a plant-based food is certainly good for our bodies and good for God’s chickens.

4. This Week’s Bible Verse
(RSV) Colossians 3:16
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teach and admonish one another in all wisdom, and sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs with thankfulness in your hearts to God.”
When Jesus' teachings of compassion, mercy and peace dwell in our hearts, we are able to help our brothers and sisters in Christ to be more aligned with God’s will. With thankfulness and mindfulness we praise our Creator.

5. Why We Should Avoid Eating Meat
Ethically speaking, humans have many reasons to abstain from eating meat and now, nutritionally speaking, the evidence has never been clearer: less is better. From Harvard nutrition guru, Dr. Walter Willet to Dr. Neal Barnard, President of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, many are the experts who avoid meat as much as possible or completely, given that research consistently shows that eating meat increases the risk of heart disease and various cancers.

Eating animal products carries much suffering and death for all of God’s Creation. On the other hand, adopting a plant-based diet alleviates both, human and nonhuman suffering. In short: vegetarianism honors God’s Creation.
