1. Food and Spirituality
Kathy Freston,
best-seller author, ponders the question about the link between choice
of diet and spirituality. As it turns out, Freston, like many others,
is able to see the inconsistency of eating animals who suffered much
for people’s taste, and the following of a path of compassion and
love. In fact, Freston specifically questions Christianity due to her
own spiritual roots and comes across tremendous support from the Bible
and many Christian scholars against eating meat, which is very
consistent to the teachings of a loving and compassionate God.

Indeed, the eating of animals
is a subject many times raised in the Bible and nowhere in it has God
encouraged people to eat His /Her animals. In fact, God’s original
plan, mentioned in the book of Genesis, is to live harmoniously with
all creatures and to eat a plant-based diet. If today’s Christians
followed this path of love and compassion, the world would certainly
be a better place because, undoubtedly, our footprint of healing and
reconciliation would be evident.
2. This Week’s
Famous Quote
“Although other animals may be different from us,
this does not make them less than us.”
~
Marc Bekoff
3. Hens are Wonderful Mothers
Read about the fantastic
mothering skills hens show when allowed. They lovingly take care of
their chicks teaching them important life skills while protecting
them. Sadly, in today’s farms hens are treated as commodities or
egg-laying machines, who are never allowed to take care of their
babies or even exercise any of their instincts and needs.

In today’s
modern world most hens live a short life full of misery and pain, far
from what God intended since He/She endowed them with wonderful and
complex mothering skills, needs and instincts that contribute to the
beauty of God’s magnificent Creation. By showing compassion to God’s
animals and not eating them, we contribute to the beauty, joy and love
that permeate our world.
4. This Week’s Bible Verse
(RSV) Romans 8:25
"But if we hope for what we do not see, we
wait for it with patience."
In spite of all the suffering in
God's Creation, we are working towards the Peaceable Kingdom in which
all creatures will live in peace and harmony. This is something for
which it is worth being patient.
5. How to Truly Be Free
Dr. Will Tuttle, author of the best-seller “The World Peace Diet”
explains why the entwined and ingrained roots of animal slavery in our
society give fruit to slavery of humans in many ways. The
victimization of animals promoted and accepted in society lead to our
own psychological numbing, disconnectedness and hardness of heart,
which in turn result in much suffering at every level of our
existence: psychological, physical, environmental, social, emotional,
spiritual, etc. Freeing animals ultimately frees us.
