1. Pigs: Amazingly
Intelligent
Abundant evidence shows that pigs are very smart
creatures and that their emotional lives are very rich, much like
dogs. However, pigs are abused in egregious ways and turned into food,
while dogs are treated many times like family members. This is where
The Someone Project comes into place. It aims to expose the abundant
research involving pigs, chickens, cows and other farm animals that
show these animals have much more emotionally complex lives than
commonly believed.

All
creatures, human or not, are creations of God. We all share the same
essence of life that allows us to feel. When we ignore this, we are
denying other creatures their God-given rights to exercise their
instincts and needs, which in turn goes against the very principles of
Jesus’ teachings of compassion, mercy and love.
2. This
Week’s Famous Quote
“The real struggle in being vegan doesn’t
involve food. The hardest part about being vegan is coming
face-to-face with the darker side of humanity and trying to remain
hopeful. It’s trying to understand why otherwise good and caring
people continue to participate in needless violence against animals
for the sake of their own pleasure or convenience.”
~ Jo Tyler
3. A Visit to Farm Sanctuary
Read the heart-felt
story of Jeff Johnson, a person who spent a few days at Farm Sanctuary
in NY learning about their rescued animals and also the miserable
lives that the rest of the animals have in factory farms around the
world. Jeff especially focuses on Nikki, a mother pig who escaped a
factory farm during a flood and kept her babies safe until rescued.
Sadly, most factory farmed animals don’t end up rescued but instead
live a life of cruelty until they meet a brutal death.

God’s farmed animals are
routinely abused and killed in farms and factory farms around the
world even though it’s virtually unnecessary. Our society seems to be
influenced more by traditions, habits, convenience and taste, rather
than love and compassion.
4. This Week’s Bible Verse
(RSV) Proverbs 15:23
“To make an apt answer is a joy to
a man, and a word in season, how good it is!”
God calls us to
talk to one another in a respectful, loving way. While many times we
are tempted to respond in anger or frustration, we should remember
that timely and appropriate words spoken in gentleness are Christ-like
and more effective.
5. The Terrible Things We Do to
Chickens
Chickens raised for their flesh today are pushed to
grow at such an unnatural rate (with unnatural feeds and drugs) that
their end weight would be like a 10 year-old child weighing 500
pounds. You can watch a 30-second animation in this article to
understand the severity of the problem and to try to picture the
suffering these animals endure.

The things we do to God's animals for profit and taste are really
terrible. We sow seeds of pain, fear and death when we eat these
creatures, and then we wonder why there's so much disease, fear and
suffering around us. We can make this world a better place if we align
our food choices with our values and beliefs.
6. This Week’s Video
Farm Sanctuary's National Shelter Director Susie Coston shows the
viewer the extent of suffering and disease factory farmed egg-laying
hens experience. The video features one of the 200 hens rescued from a
factory farm.
