1. Factory Farms
Are Breeding Ground for Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria
Once
again factory farms are the focus of the fast-growing and serious
problem of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Researchers at Johns Hopkins
University and other institutions found out that 37% of workers at
factory farms where antibiotics are used have colonies of MDRSA
(resistant to several different drugs typically used as treatment)
present in the nasal swabs taken from them.

What should we expect from abusing, confining, mutilating and
exploiting God's animals? The consequences of our actions against
Creation are evident. The good news is that we can turn the tide and
help bring healing and reconciliation simply by aligning our Faith
with our food.
2. This Week’s Famous Quote
“Your
body is a temple, but only if you treat it as one.”

Astrid Alauda
3. Campylobacter Concerns
According
to the Public Health Agency of Canada the prevalence of
ciprofloxacin-resistant Campylobacter in retail chicken is increasing.
This concerns scientists because ciprofloxacin is critically important
for the treatment of Campylobacter infections in humans.

It’s just not possible to raise
God’s chickens by the billions without antibiotics and intense
confinement. Of course, the conditions in factory farms are horrendous
for chickens, and lead to public health dangers such as the emergence
of new bacterial and viral strains as well as antibiotic-resistant
bacteria. There is no way to exploit God’s animals without causing
much harm to humans as well.
4. This Week’s Bible Verse
1 Cor. 6:19
The apostle Paul wrote that our bodies are The temples of the
Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 6:19), and it follows that we should care for our
bodies as gifts from God. The largest organization of food and
nutrition professionals in the United States, the American Dietetic
Association, has endorsed well-planned vegetarian diets. In 2003, the
ADA noted, “Vegetarians have been reported to have lower body mass
indices than nonvegetarians, as well as lower rates of death from
ischemic heart disease; vegetarians also show lower blood cholesterol
levels; lower blood pressure; and lower rates of hypertension, type 2
diabetes, and prostate and colon cancer.”
5. MRSA Strain
Might Have Come From Cows
A new article published by the
American Society for Microbiology indicates that a strain of MRSA —or
methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus—jumped from cows to farm
workers over 40 years ago and that animals on farms may be a reservoir
for future pandemic outbreaks.

Factory farms are the ideal
vessels to create new strains of viruses and bacteria that could
decimate or even threat the survival of humans on this planet. After
all, the consequences of the grave offenses against God’s animals are
grave as well. Kindness, on the other hand, might be just what we need
to heal the planet.
6. This Week’s Video
Hundreds of thousands of Americans are Salmonella poisoned by poultry
every year, yet it remains legal to sell meat proven to be
contaminated. In this short video, Dr. Gegrer explains the severity of
the problem and the lack of action to resolve it.
