1. Cal-Main’s Outrageous Actions
Cal-Maine, the largest egg producer in the U.S., is once again in
trouble. They will pay $28 million to settle federal antitrust claims.
Cal-Maine allegedly tried to increase egg process by killing off young
chicks and egg-laying hens in order to artificially reduce egg supply.

This is a clear example of how the animal-based agriculture
system regards animals as simple tools for profit. The unnecessary
killing of God's animals should cause us to deeply examine our choices
and should lead us to firmly object supporting such industries. There
is no room for cruelty and indifference if we live by Christ's
teachings.
2. This Week’s Famous Quote
The simplest acts of kindness are by far more powerful than a
thousand heads bowing in prayer.
~ Gandhi
3. Ag-Gag Bills Failing Miserably
Ag-gag bills are becoming a thing of the past. Just this year, 11
of them have been defeated showing that people want more transparency
in regards to how animals are raised for food, something the
animal-based agriculture industry is incapable of doing.

As Ocean Robbins says, “People are tired of being tired and sick
of being sick.” People are waking up to the realization that raising
God’s animals for food is a sickening system for humans and animals,
and destructive to the environment. This is why it is no surprise
ag-gag bills have backfired and are miserably failing. This is good
news for all of God’s Creation.
4. This Week’s Bible Verse
(RSV) 2 Corinthians 4:8-9
We are
afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to
despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed.
Many times, as advocates of God’s creatures, we may feel
alienated or even attacked. However, the progress we are making for
those who have no voice is tangible; and in spite of the opposition,
deep down the faith of Christ tells us that we are fulfilling our
purpose, and helping bring peace and reconciliation to Earth.
5. Nonhuman Personhood
This is a very compelling essay by Andrew C. Revkin, challenging
readers to ask themselves why some sentient beings seem to be more
worthy of rights and protection than others. He raises the issue of
nonhuman personhood, pondering the question of basic rights such as to
live free from human exploitation.

Welfare:

Indeed, the issue of animal rights is a very controversial one,
especially because history has shown us that humans may rationalize
horrific acts if they benefit from them (slavery, holocaust,
Inquisition, factory farming, etc.). However, the undeniable evidence
that God’s animals suffer much in our hands, and most of the time
unnecessarily and unjustly, should prompt us to examine our motives.
If our motives and choices are not aligned with our Faith, then we
should make the necessary changes so they become aligned. I think that
eating God’s animals, in this day and age, is mainly driven by taste,
habit and convenience and not by compassion, mercy and love.
