1. Red Meat
Might Be the New Cigarettes
Martha Rosenberg,
columnist/cartoonist who writes about public health, takes a look at
what has happened with the view Americans have of red meat since the
1980’s. She clearly shows how little by little red meat has been
linked negatively to health problems, to people related to the meat
industry suffering from diseases linked to meat consumption, to
egregious animal abuse and to celebrities ditching meat for good.

Is Red Meat the New Cigarettes?
http://dissidentvoice.org/2013/04/is-red-meat-the-new-cigarettes/
Red meat is the flesh of
cows, who are God’s animals just like dogs and cats. They are sentient
beings who feel pain, joy and fear. They play, mate, raise their young
and form friendships. Sadly, when raised for their milk or meat, they
are used and abused as if they were inanimate objects. It’s simply not
possible to raise an animal for food and at the same time claim we
love this animal or pretend we are showing compassion to him/her.
Truly, the only way to show love and compassion to these animals is to
abstain from using them for our benefit when there’s no need to do it.
We free them from slavery and we free ourselves too. There’s nothing
more liberating than to allow other creatures to live free from
exploitation!

3.
Poultry Plants Using Poisonous Chemicals
Toxic,
bacteria-killing chemicals in poultry plants are a growing concern.
These chemicals are hazardous and sometimes fatal to humans as
seemingly was the case of federal poultry inspector, Jose Navarro, who
died two years after starting his job.

At chicken plants, chemicals blamed for health ailments are poised to
proliferate:

When we cause misery to God’s animals, we
cause misery to ourselves as well. The demand for poultry products has
turned the human-animal bond into a mockery. What should be based on
reverence, respect, love, joy and harmony has turned into a
relationship based on exploitation, suffering, disease and death. We
can turn this around and restore our relationship with God’s animals
once we realize that hurting them might be hurting us even more; and
that in setting them free we bring healing and reconciliation to God’s
Creation.
4. This Week’s Bible Verse
1
Corinthians 10:25
Eat whatever is sold in the meat market”.
We believe that this passage warns people against rejecting
God’s gifts. However, Christian vegetarians celebrate good food. We do
not object to meat because it is from God but because man-made factory
farming is so harmful.
5. First Vegetarian School
Cafeteria in the U.S.
Public School 224 in New York has made
the news by becoming the first school in the nation offering only
vegetarian food at their cafeteria. School officials are proud to be
leaders at encouraging school kids to eat healthier.

The
world is changing! Public School 224 is setting a precedent for all
other schools in the nation showing that children can be healthier by
not eating God’s animals. Hopefully many other schools will follow
this fantastic example!
