1. Another Pro-Athlete Goes VEGAN
Orlando Magic forward
Glen Davis has adopted a plant-based diet! After fracturing a
bone in his left foot five weeks ago, Davis is sticking to a vegan
diet as he tries to lose weight and lessen the strain on his joints.

A plant-based diet does a body good! If well-balanced, it helps
maintain a healthy weight and reduce one’s risk of many chronic
conditions including osteoporosis (weakening of the bones).
It’s great to learn that more professional athletes are getting
educated on the benefits of plant-based diets!
2. This
Week’s Famous Quote
Once you decide that you regard victimizing vulnerable
nonhumans is not morally acceptable, it is easy to go and stay vegan.
~ Gary L. Francione, legal scholar an
animal advocate
3. Vegilicious!
Germany is the
place where the first supermarket in Europe opened. Vegilicious
carries over 1500 products including chocolate bars, cereals, veggie
meats and 30 different cheese alternatives. According to Kalkowski,
who co-owns Vegilicious with wife Kim, "You can have anything you
think you might be missing, so there's no need to eat animal products
anymore."

The
world is changing! Just a decade ago, the word “vegan” was fairly
unknown. Today, veganism is becoming popular and well-accepted because
the benefits of a plant-based diet are too numerous and too great to
ignore. Vegan supermarkets are the result of the demand of vegan
products because veganism is good for all of God’s Creation: humans,
animals and the environment.
4. This Week’s Bible Verse
(RSV) Luke 24:42-43
They gave him a piece of broiled
fish, and he took it and ate before them.
This passage
describes Jesus eating fish after the Resurrection. However, Jesus’
diet 2,000 years ago in a Mediterranean fishing community does not
mandate what Christians should eat today. Similarly, what Jesus wore
does not dictate how we should dress today. We are blessed with a wide
range of healthful, tasty, convenient plant foods, much like in Eden.
Meanwhile, we believe that the way animals are treated today makes a
mockery of God’s love for them.
5. MRSA from Livestock to
Humans
Scientists at the University of Cambridge claim to have
found evidence that confirms animal-to-human transfer of
methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), which is a serious
public health issue that can have fatal consequences. MRSA can lead to
debilitating skin and soft tissue infections, bacteremia, pneumonia
and endocarditis.

When we
cause misery to God’s animals, we cause misery to ourselves. The
catastrophic consequences of raising animals for food are evident
everywhere in the planet. Profit and taste must not trump our
innermost essence of love, which is the same we share we all beings on
Earth. After all, we are all God’s creations!
6. Map of
Factory Farms
Take a look at the number and location of
factory farms in the United States where 9 billion land animals are
victimized every year unnecessarily. These farms cause much
environmental devastation as well.
