1. Beat
Depression with Fruits and Veggies!
Researchers at the New
Zealand's University of Otago, after studying the effects of food on
mood, concluded that consuming more fruits and vegetables increases
calm, happiness, and energy in one's daily life.

Eating
fewer processed foods is definitely good for our bodies. It’s also
important to note that when we consume animal products, we are
ingesting the flesh and secretions of animals who suffered in
unimaginable ways, both physically and emotionally. Fear, pain, terror
are common in farms and slaughterhouses. So, maybe consuming less
fear, pain and terror is a good thing for us. After all, we are what
we eat.
2. This Week’s Famous Quote
The extensive use of antimicrobial drugs has resulted in drug resistance
that threatens to reverse the medical advances of the last seventy
years.

3. Farmed
Animals Are On Drugs
This is a very informative article that
exposes the dangers of feeding drugs to factory farmed animals, so
they can survive the confinement, mutilations, disease and unsanitary
conditions in factory farms. Although China has been on the spotlight
for their short-sighted practices in animal agriculture such as giving
the antiviral Tamiflu to poultry, the U.S. really doesn’t lag far
behind. Just in 2011, 29.9 millions of antibiotics were used in
livestock.

Humanity has created the perfect vessels to create, rotate and combine
viruses and bacteria; they are called factory farms. These intensive
operations bring suffering to God’s animals, disease to humans and
profit to the corporations that owned them. Aligning our values and
beliefs with our food choices might be one of the best decisions we
could ever make, because such a simple but critical decision, affect
all of God’s Creation. Christians should lead by example.
4. This Week’s Bible Verse
(RSV) 1 Corinthians 10:25
Eat whatever is sold in the meat market without raising any question
on the ground of conscience.
We believe that this passage
warns people against rejecting God’s gifts. However, Christian
vegetarians celebrate good food. We do not object to meat because it
is from God but because man-made factory farming is so harmful and
because most people have access to tasty, healthy plant-based foods.
5. Ditch Dairy and Feel Better!
Harvard declares
dairy is not part of a healthy diet. They suggest that collards, bok
choy, fortified soy milk, and baked beans are safer choices than dairy
for obtaining calcium, as are high quality supplements.

It’s not
surprising to learn about Harvard scientists recommendations because
dairy is for calves, not humans. Aside from the ill-effects of dairy
on our bodies, the production of dairy is a source of much suffering
and death for dairy cows and their calves. A diet that shows
compassion to God’s animals is a diet that promotes good health.
6. This Week’s Video
Dr. Neal Barnard, M.D., President of
the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) was invited
to the Dr. Oz show to talk about his new book: “POWER FOODS FOR THE
BRAIN: An Effective 3-Step Plan to Protect Your Mind and Strengthen
Your Memory.” Watch his appearance on the show and learn what foods
promote Alzheimer's and what foods help prevent it. Hint: a
plant-based diet is good for your brain!
