Animal Agriculture Brings Misery to Animals and to Us

1. The Victimization of Humans by the Animal Agriculture Industry
Although the main arguments to stop supporting the animal agriculture industry involve our health, animal suffering and environmental degradation, the issue regarding social justice is also an important one. All around the world workers at factory farms and slaughterhouses are forced to work under extreme unsanitary and dangerous conditions, many times under bondage, and without any legal protection. Factory farms and slaughterhouses are hellish places. The victimization of humans and God’s animals by the animal agriculture industry is appalling and widespread. Christians are called to love one another, but when we consume animal products we are supporting an industry that abuses our fellow human beings as well as God’s animals.

3. What Farmed Animals Have Become, “Thanks” To Us
Truly, as this article states, farmed animals have become “grotesque parodies of their natural selves” thanks to the insane thirst for profit and power. Animals are bred faster, larger and much more different than nature intended to a point where most of them are truly deformed and suffering. Chickens are bred so large that their organs fail and their bones brake often, pigs are bred so they can stand factory farming conditions and therefore lack the fat and hair that would make them suitable to live outdoors, beef steers are often bred to have double-muscle leading to joint problems and deformities, Atlantic salmon bred in farms suffer from skeletal deformities and dairy cows’ udders are so large that their bodies cannot carry their weight and often become lame.Please visit Farm Animals Have Become Grotesque Parodies of their natural selves:

Raising God’s animals for food is showing disrespect to our Creator. Manipulating the lives of these helpless animals in order to fit our purposes invariably turns these animals into commodities, which leads to the hardening of our hearts. When we kill animals for food, we are deadening our sensitivity, our love and our compassion.

A righteous man has regard for the life of his beast, but the mercy of the wicked is cruel.
God calls us to be merciful to all His/Her creatures. Animal agriculture is a merciless industry and Christians should not support it if possible. If we do, we become accomplices of what God’s farmed animals endure.
5. Backyard Animal Farming Not Necessarily Less Abusive
Most people upon learning about the egregious cruelty animals suffer in factory farms assume that small farms or backyard livestock owners involve less abuse. However, the reality is that these small farms have little on no surveillance and animal abuse is sadly very rampant. Raising animals for food, in any setting, is contradictory with a compassionate and loving lifestyle. Animals raised for food are almost always healthy young animals killed at a very early age, which raises ethical issues as well. God’s farmed animals are at our total mercy. When we broaden our circle of compassion and include all beings in it, we are actively participating in the healing and reconciliation of God’s Creation.
