1. Central Valley Meat Co., Inc. Reopens
Central Valley
Meat Co., Inc., the slaughterhouse that was closed for a week after
the release of an undercover video by Compassion For Animals, will
reopen its doors on Monday. The USDA has agreed to let this plant
resume operations if they agreed on a few requirements such as
training their workers on how to handle cows, not using electric prods
on the cows’ “sensitive areas,” transporting downed animals properly
stunned, etc.

Insanity, hardness of heart, greed and corruption at its
best! By allowing this slaughterhouse to continue operations, we are
only helping spread misery and devastation in God’s Creation.
Consumers need to stop supporting the animal agriculture industry or
we will continue to plant seeds of pain, sorrow and death.
We
should not forget that we are all part of the divine web of life and
when we harm others, we harm ourselves. Let’s put Christ’s teachings
of compassion, mercy, love and justice into practice on our daily
lives. By doing this, we will naturally adopt a plant-based diet that
helps bring healing, reconciliation and restoration to God’s Creation.
2. This Week’s Famous Quote
“A man is truly ethical
only when he obeys the compulsion to help all life he is able to
assist and shrinks from injuring anything that lives.”
~
Albert Schweitzer
3. Just Stating the Facts
Dan
Murphy, a defender of animal agriculture, writes on Drovers (an Ag
journal) about the closure of the CA slaughterhouse after allegations
of animal abuse. Murphy, surprisingly, refers to the dairy industry in
a very real way: an industry that too often exploits animals without
any concern of their well-being, who as a result, end up with “weak,
worn out and often struggling to remain ambulatory during transport to
the increasingly few, distant cow plants.”

I applaud Dan Murphy
for stating what should be evident to everyone: dairy cows are one of
the most abused animals in the food industry. They are impregnated
year after year, their milk and their babies are stolen from them,
they suffer mutilations without anesthesia, they live under
confinement, fear and pain; and at the end of their lives, when they
can no longer produce anymore milk or have anymore babies, they are
sent to slaughter to die in horrific ways. Somehow, dairy products
just don’t seem worth the suffering; and clearly, the dairy industry
makes a mockery of God’s love for farmed animals.
4. This
Week’s Bible Verse
(RSV) Proverbs 4:6-7
Do not forsake her, and she will keep you; love her, and she will
guard you. The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom, and whatever
you get, get insight.
Wisdom helps us discern the right path to take, the
right choice to make. If we don't apply wisdom and intuition on our
daily lives, we might miss important lessons and make choices that
actually harm ourselves and others.
5. The New “Soul
Food”
Most people think of "soul food" as dishes like
barbecued ribs, fried chicken, pork chops, ham, black-eyed peas and
cornbread. However, according to Ishmael Shakur, a black American who
chooses to eat a plant-based diet, foods containing animal products
are not "soul food" but are actually soul destroyers. Ishmael is among
the growing number of black Americans who have adopted a
compassionate, healthful plant-based diet that "... adds to your
spirit, gives you energy, gives you life, and helps you feel vibrant."

Kudos
for everyone who understands that food not only nourishes the body but
also the soul!! It’s not possible to ingest the products of terror,
pain and death and believe they don’t affect our essence or our spirit
in a negative way.
6. This Week’s Video: Farm to Fridge
Farm to Fridge is a short documentary that takes viewers on
a learning journey so they can witness what farmed animals go through
from farm to table. A must see movie!
