1. “Meatless Monday” is Unstoppable
The Meatless Monday
movement has been steadily gaining momentum and fans. Thanks to the
increasing awareness about the benefits of a plant-based diet on our
health, the environment and animals, more people are choosing meatless
meals at home and elsewhere. Fast food restaurants are also slowly
catching up. Subway, Moe’s, Burger King, etc. are offering already
meatless options and many also offer vegan options. And as the writer
of the article, Ellen Kanner, explains it, it’s all about the power of
the consumer: “Very nice, but for the most part, fast food franchises
do not act out of love. They do it to accommodate consumer demand.
They do it because it's good business to give the people what they
want. We're here, we're meatless, get used to it and if you want our
money and market share, feed us.”

Meatless Monday: Chain Reaction
We are stewards of
God’s Creation and if are taking our role seriously, lovingly and
responsibly, we are affecting everything around us, including what
food businesses serve. After all, when we take a stand against
exploitation and victimization, people listen and therefore companies
change the way they do business. Every single time a person chooses to
adopt a plant-based diet, the world becomes a better place.
2. This Week’s Famous Quote
It is a matter of taking the side
of the weak against the strong, something the best people have always
done.
~ Harriet Beecher Stowe (June 14, 1811 – July 1,
1896), American abolitionist and author.
3. UCLA at the
Forefront of Vegetarianism
UCLA seems to be at the forefront of healthy eating,
environmentalism and ethics. Their experts in different disciplines
are exploring how a plant-based diet can solve many of the problems
that humanity is facing such as deforestation, pollution, cruelty to
animals at an imaginable scale, human health crisis.

There is undeniable evidence that a
vegetarian diet is the most effective solution to restore the health
of the planet and its inhabitants, and in spite of this overwhelming
evidence most people around the world still support the animal
agriculture industry. Why do taste, greed and profit still govern most
people’s choices of diet? Maybe it is because it’s easier to turn our
backs on devastation and suffering than to face them. However, if we
want to live up to our role of good stewards of God’s creation we must
look deeply within and align our choices with our Faith.
4.
This Week’s Bible Verse
(RSV) Isaiah 41:13
For I, the
LORD your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, "Fear
not, I will help you."
We are made in God’s image; and
therefore, our Creator’s essence – which is one of love – is within
us. In a world beset of suffering and injustice fear seems
unavoidable. However, if we do our best to remain present, mindful and
connected to God by living out Christ’s teachings, we see that fear
subsides and instead peace and courage overcome us.
5. Big Ag
Dominates USDA
Once again the USDA has shown complete
submission to the livestock industry; this time by retracting their
support to “Meatless Mondays”, an initiative of the nonprofit Monday
Campaign Inc. and the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, which
already thousands of corporate cafeterias and schools have adopted.
“Meatless Mondays” countless benefits are obvious to our health, the
environment and animals. However, the USDA seems unable to stand on
its own for what is right. \
