1. More E. coli Testing in Light of Meat Recalls
Due to an increase number of recalls of contaminated meat in recent
years the government is expanding its testing of E. coli in meat, in
hopes it will hasten recalls and help authorities identify more
foodborne illnesses. Even though the meat industry immediately opposed
the move, the government ordered to begin testing for six additional
strains of E. coli in beef trimmings in March 2012. To read the article

year; move will hasten recalls:

The government is once again applying a band-aid on a monumental
problem: agribusiness. Although more testing will hopefully unveil how
unsafe animal products are, it will do nothing in behalf of billions of
exploited creatures. The government needs to stop subsidizing the meat,
dairy and egg industries and start promoting a plant-based diet.
2. This Week’s Famous Quote
Having the USDA design your food pyramid is like having Al Capone
do your taxes.
~ Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn
3. Eggs Are Not Safe
In spite of the numerous violations of health safety at different egg
farms in the state of Iowa, the FDA is still failing consumers. Many of
the FDA health reports at egg farms show that they do not even meet the
minimum federal requirements and that to make matters worse,
“information such as the size of rodent infestations, the brand names
under which the eggs are sold, and even the names of diseases documented
at the egg farms — are blacked out and being withheld from the public.”
Moreover, when violations were found none have resulted in fines or
penalties from state or federal agencies. To read the article please

Egg farms are hellish places for God’s chickens, who live miserable
lives until they are brutally slaughtered. It shouldn’t surprise us that
disease arises from causing misery to these creatures, after all, we
ripe what we sow. Therefore, if we sow seeds of compassion and love, we
should ripe peace, healing and love.
4. This Week’s Bible Verse
(RSV) Colossians 3:12-13
Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassion,
kindness, lowliness, meekness, and patience, forbearing one another and,
if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the
Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.
Although judging others might come easy, with should refrain of doing
so. Instead, we should show patience, kindness and forgiveness as
exemplified by Jesus Christ.
5. Vegan Myths Debunked
Virginia Messina, MPH, RD, sorts through the myths surrounding
plant-based diets. From protein and cholesterol to B12 and soy foods,
Messina explains clearly, based in scientific facts, why a plant-based
diet is healthy and easily attainable. Please visit Vegan Diets: Sorting
Through the Myths:

For us, Christians, a plant-based diet should be our choice of diet,
given that the Bible describes God prescribing a plant-based diet for
humans in the book of Genesis. Moreover, plant-based diets show
compassion and love to God’s animals as well as helping restore the
environment.
