1. More Chicken Products for School Children?!
This is a fantastic letter written by Susan Levin, M.S., R.D.
(Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine), directed to Secretary
Tom Vilsack urging him to cancel the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s
recently announced plan to purchase $40 million of chicken products for
use in school lunches and other federal food assistance programs. Ms.
Levin explains clearly why it's not in the best interest of children to
eat chicken given the high fat and cholesterol content, and the
increased risk of contamination with salmonella or campylobacter.
She
also asks Mr. Vilsack to "stop using child nutrition programs as a means
for boosting agribusiness incomes." To read the letter please visit USDA

It’s encouraging that more people and institutions have started
challenging the status quo. Agribusiness is a rotten industry that
unless consumers stop supporting, the health of people, the state of the
environment, and the lives of God’s animals will continue to be
negatively affected with devastating consequences.
2. This Week’s Famous Quote
Of itself, veganism is not a panacea, but it effectively removes a
basic hindrance to our happiness, freedom, and unfoldment. As a living
and ongoing expression of nonviolence, it is an enormously powerful
agent of transformation in our individual lives, especially since our
culture opposes it so vehemently.
~ Will Tuttle, The World Peace Diet
3. The Dangers of Processed Meats
According to the World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF), processed meats
are dangerous for human consumption. WCRF has reviewed more than 7,000
clinical studies covering links between diet and cancer, and the
conclusions are unequivocal: there is a definite link between processed
meats and certain cancers. The reasons seem to be the fact that
processed meats are produced with a carcinogenic ingredient known as
sodium nitrite used as a color fixer by meat companies to turn packaged
meats a bright red color so they look fresh. To read the article, please

Once again we learn about one of the unethical practices of the meat
industry that causes much disease in humans. Our fast food nation of
processed people might not realize the dangers of eating the typical
American diet; dangers that carries devastating consequences to our
health, God’s animals and the environment. It’s so much easier to eat a
well-balanced plant-based diet than dealing with cancer or watching a
loved one suffer with this disease!
4. This Week’s Bible Verse
(RSV) Proverbs 29:11
A fool gives full vent to his anger, but a wise man quietly holds
it back.
Venting our anger more often than not does not help to state our
case. Learning to deal with our anger in constructive ways could
effectively bring healing and reconciliation in God's Creation.
5. The Pus in Milk
Due to the constant exploitation of dairy cows, these animals are
commonly sick with infections such as mastitis and the USDA keeps
claiming that “pus” from infected udders (which then is passed on to
milk) doesn’t have an effect on human health. Dr. Michael Greger
explains why the dairy industry continues to demand that American milk
retains the highest allowable “somatic cell” (pus) concentration in the
world in spite of the health risks. Appallingly, the dairy industry
claims that this "pus" is pasteurized, to what Dr. Greger replies, “
But
just as parents may not want to feed their children fecal matter in meat
even if it’s irradiated fecal matter, they might not want to feed their
children pasteurized pus." To read the article, please visit How much
pus is there in milk?:

Dairy cows are relentlessly and callously abused from birth to death.
The dairy industry is so heartless that the suffering of these innocent
creatures is of no importance as long as they produce profit. In fact,
not only has the dairy industry commoditized God’s animals, but has made
it clear and obvious that human health is of no importance, either. Why
should any of us support an industry that abuses God’s animals and
spreads sickness in humans?
6. This Week’s Video: Why cow’s milk is unhealthy
Corlin Palmer, and 8th grader, made a documentary about how unhealthy
cow’s milk is for a human body. It really states the case with great
visuals and easy explanations. Please visit Why cow's milk is unhealthy:
