1. We Are Making Progress!
The University of North Texas (UNT) is setting a precedent by serving
in one of their cafeterias, Maple Hall cafeteria, only vegan foods. This
cafeteria will reopen later this month and will offer students two hot
food lines, a pizza bar, a panini bar, and a salad bar... all vegan! To
learn more please visit One UNT cafeteria to switch to all-vegan food:

Kudos for UNT!! Hopefully more colleges and universities will follow
UNT's steps and at least offer a good variety of well-balanced
plant-based options for the so many students out there that are making
mindful decisions at the time of eating. It is because of the increasing
demand of plant-based foods that more institutions are acknowledging the
need to cater to our growing movement.
2. This Week’s Famous Quote
"I brainwashed youngsters into doing wrong. I want to say sorry to
children everywhere for selling out to concerns who make millions by
murdering other living creatures."
- Geoffrey Guiliano, the main Ronald McDonald actor in the 1980's who
quit and publicly apologized.
3. Cow’s Milk Does Not Do Our Bodies Good
A great deal of scientific evidence shows that dairy products are not
healthy for humans. Certain cancers, diabetes mellitus, acne, heart
disease, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease are linked to the
intake of dairy products according to Dr Peter Dingle, who is a
researcher, educator and public health advocate. To read the article

Cow’s milk is the perfect food for calves, who grow up to 600 lbs in
nine months! Humans are the only species that drink milk past infancy.
These two facts alone should make people think twice about the practice
of drinking cow’s milk and the deleterious effects this has on our
bodies. Moreover, the mere fact that we are robbing calves the milk
their mothers are producing for them goes against our ethical and
spiritual principles.
4. This Week’s Bible Verse
(RSV) Genesis 2:18-19
Then the LORD God said, "It is not good that the man should be alone;
I will make him a helper fit for him." 19 So out of the ground the LORD
God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and
brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the
man called every living creature, that was its name.
God’s ideal is what we need to strive. The Bible gives us a clear
idea of God’s ideal for us regarding our diet and our relationship to
animals.
5. Foods That Kill
People in the U.S. are experiencing a health crisis never seen
before. Obesity, heart disease, cancer and diabetes are chronic diseases
that have been on the rise for decades. It is no wonder that these
diseases are linked to the foods people in the U.S. mostly eat, which
are laden with animal products, saturated fats and sugar. Xtreme Eating
2011 features a list of 8 popular dishes that exemplify why Americans
are so sick. It is important to note, as the authors of this article
state, that restaurants don’t force anyone to eat these foods... it’s
ultimately each person’s choice. Read:

It’s not surprising that foods containing animal products are not
conducive to good health. After all, what should we expect to gain when
we torture animals unnecessarily and rob them from their God-given right
to enjoy life? What goes around comes around. On the same token, if we
chose to eat in a compassionate and loving way, we’ll reap health, peace
and love.
6. This Week’s Video: The Ghosts in our Machine
THE GHOSTS IN OUR MACHINE is a cross-platform documentary by social
issue filmmaker Liz Marshall, featuring animal rights photographer
Jo-Anne McArthur, that seeks to expose and illuminate the lives of
sentient beings exploited for profit and consumption. The images in this
film I believe will help the viewer understand that animals are by no
means commodities, but complex creatures who want to live in freedom as
much as we do and fear death as much as we do as well. To watch the
trailer please visit The Ghosts in our Machine:
