1. The Problems with the Overuse of Antibiotics
in Factory Farmed Animals
The overuse of antibiotics in the animal agriculture industry has
been a subject of great concern due to the increasing number of
antibiotic resistant bacteria strains. Now, the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention, published a new paper that claims there is
enough similarity between drug-resistance genes in E. coli carried by
chickens and E. coli infecting humans that the chickens may be the
source of it. To learn more please visit Is Drug Resistance in Humans
Coming from Chickens?

Government officials, the medical community, the pharmaceutical and
animal agriculture industries cannot deny the abundance of evidence
indicating that the continuous overuse of antibiotics in factory farmed
animals is a serious health threat for humanity. Therefore, unless the
consumer takes action, it seems that there might be little response to
the problem by groups that benefit from the ag industry. Adopting a
plant-based diet sends a clear message: "We care about God's Creation:
humans, animals and the environment."
2. This Week’s Famous Quote
"We can see quite plainly that our present civilization is built on
the exploitation of animals, just as past civilizations were built on
the exploitation of slaves."
~ Donald Watson (2 September 1910 – 16 November 2005), founder of the
Vegan Society and inventor of the word “vegan”
3. Plant-based Diets are Nutrient Dense
A new recent study conducted by Eastern Michigan University and
published in The Journal of the American Dietetic Association, indicates
that vegetarian diets offer all the nutrients a human body needs in
consistency with dietary guidelines. In fact, the study shows that mean
intakes of fiber, vitamins A, C and E, thiamin, riboflavin, folate,
calcium, magnesium, and iron were all higher for vegetarians than for
all non-vegetarians. To read the article please visit Vegetarian Diets

More good news for vegetarians! Indeed, God’s ideal diet for us as we
read in the book of Genesis, is not only healthy, but ethical and
compassionate. There is really no substantial evidence that a meat,
dairy, egg-based diet is in any way healthier than plant-based diets.
4. This Week’s Bible Verse
(RSV) Deuteronomy 10:14
"Behold, to the LORD your God belong heaven and the heaven of
heavens, the earth with all that is in it"
Everything belongs to God and we have been given the privilege and
responsibility to take care of it. It is then, when we assume this role,
that we embrace a lifestyle that accords with it: a compassionate,
sustainable and just one.
5. Cigarettes and Meat: Are They Similar In Some
Ways?
J. Morris Hicks, daily blogger at
explains why tackling the "meat" problem can be in many ways similar to
tackling the "cigarette" one: through education and raising awareness:
http://www.healthyeatinghealthyworld.com
However, Hicks recognizes the fact that most parents and physicians
endorse a meat-based diet (unlike smoking) and cigarette warnings are
seen in every pack of cigarettes (no warning in animal-containing
foods). This is why Hicks encourages each and everyone to do our part to
put an end to animal-based diets. To read the article please visit

Ending the exploitation of God’s animals for food is a goal for which
we should all strive. Bringing animal agriculture to an end will help
bring a peaceful coexistence of God’s farmed animals and humanity, an
increase in good health and vitality in humans, a major step toward
restoring the environment, and probably most importantly the aligning of
our actions with our inner-values and beliefs.
6. This Week’s Video – Gene Baur on Healthy Foods
and Protecting Farm Animals
Gene Baur, co-founder and President of Farm Sanctuary, was
interviewed by FOX 5 in regards to the growing awareness about the
harmful consequences of factory farming on our health, animals and the
environment. Gene Baur did a fantastic job at clearly explaining why
agribusiness is so destructive and also why it makes sense to transition
to a plant-base diet. To watch the interview please visit Creating
