1. Bugs from Factory Farms Carry
Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria
The overuse of antibiotics in factory farms in well documented, and
it’s negative consequences as well: bacterial resistant. Now, one more
aspect of this bacterial resistance is uncovered, which is the fact that
flies and cockroaches, so common in factory farms, are carriers of
bacteria-resistant pathogens. A recent study by researches from North
Carolina State and Kansas state indicates that, “…house flies and German
[common] cockroaches in the confined swine production environment likely
serve as vectors and/or reservoirs of antibiotic resistant and
potentially virulent enterococci and consequently may play an important
role in animal and public health.” To read the article please search

There are no positive aspects of factory farming. Not for humans, not
for animals and not for the environment. In fact, factory farming might
be the one aspect of civilization that causes the most devastation and
suffering in God’s Creation.
2. This Week’s Famous Quote
"Those who, by their purchases, require animals to be killed have no
right to be shielded from the slaughterhouse or any other aspect of the
production of the meat they buy. If it is distasteful for humans to
think about, what can it be like for the animals to experience it?"
~ Peter Singer (1946 - present) Australian philosopher, Professor at
Princeton University, USA.
3. Dangerous Meat Products
Although there is a growing awareness about the dangerous additives
to meat in the US, besides the overuse of antibiotic and hormones in
factory farmed animals, it is the large majority of the population that
do not know for example that the poultry industry legally laces its feed
with arsenic in order used to promote growth, kill parasites and improve
pigmentation of chicken meat. Also, that the pork industry
regularly doses pigs with ractopamine, a growth enhancer that the USDA
allows even though its own research shows that it stresses pigs out;
never mind that The European Union and China ban ractopamine, which may
harm people when ingested. To read the article please search online for

The modern animal agriculture industry is driven by profit and taste,
trumping ethics and human health on the way. Most people, if they knew
the deep corruption of our food system that allows unimaginable animal
suffering, environmental devastation and unnecessary sickness in humans,
would surely stop supporting it. The transition to a plant-based diet
has profound benefits for all of God’s Creation.
4. This Week’s Bible Verse
2 John 1:6
"And this is love, that we follow his commandments; this is the
commandment, as you have heard from the beginning, that you follow
love."
If we claim to love God, then we should to try to reflect God’s love,
that resides in each of us, onto all creatures. We cannot claim we love
other humans and God’s animals if we deliberately and unnecessarily
inflict pain on them. Therefore, a plant-based diet accords with
obedience to God.
5. Our Food, Our Health
Caldwell B. Esselstyn, Jr., MD writes an excellent article in
response to Barbara Walter's television special aired in February, "A
Matter of Life and Death", during which six celebrities (Barbara
Walters, Robin Williams, Charlie Rose, former President Clinton, Regis
Philbin, and David Letterman) shared their thoughts and emotions
surrounding their open heart surgery. Sadly, but not surprisingly, David
Letterman mentioned that he fully expected a second bypass operation in
the future. However, Dr. Esselstyn very clearly explains the link
between food and health, and therefore the one between heart disease and
the typical Western diet laden with animal products. Dr. Esselstyn
believes that "...coronary artery disease is a food borne illness and
need never exist", and its prevention clearly rests on the transition to
a plant-based diet. Please search online for

Yourself) Off The Operating Table
The impressive amount of evidence indicating the many benefits of a
well-balanced plant-based diet can no longer be ignored. Honoring and
respecting our bodies in turn honors God, for we are all His/Her
creation. By the same token, indulging in foods that affect our health
negatively for the sake of taste and convenience shows little respect to
God.
