1. Straight from the Source

Omega-3 fatty acids docosahexaenoic acid, commonly known as DHA, is very important for a human body. DHA is found in every organ of the body as well as in muscle tissue and in the brain, and makes brain membranes flexible and optimizes electrical signaling. DHA is widely found in fish; however, it is possible to get omega-3s without ever eating fish. By manufacturing DHA directly from algae, like fish do, companies --such as The Martek Biosciences Corporation-- are able to produce it without mercury (found in some fish due to the extent of water contamination). Industrial fishing has depleted fish in many areas of the world to the point of extinction. Eating fish is not necessary for the vast majority of the world population. In fact, avoiding fish intake helps restore the environment and alleviate much suffering in the aquatic fauna.

3. NBA Vegetarian Players

James Jones and John Salley, vegetarian NBA players, share a glimpse of their plant-based diet while on the road and among meat-eaters. More and more athletes are transitioning to plant-based diets for the many health benefits as well as for the ethical issues. These people are showing by example that veg diets are optimal for a human body, and that eating meat is not needed for vitality and endurance.

“And I will make for you a covenant on that day with the beasts of the field, the birds of the air, and the creeping things of the ground; and I will abolish the bow, the sword, and war from the land; and I will make you lie down in safety.”

As stewards of God's Creation, we are intimately involved in reconciling all Creation, where peace and love will reign and suffering will be no more. Therefore, our actions should reflect our Faith, which leads us to compassionate and loving choices. Adopting a plant-based diet should be one.

5. Soccer Team Owner Bans Red Meat in Stadium

Dale Vince, owner of the Forest Green Rovers, an English soccer club based in Nailsworth, Glouchestershire, had first banned red meat and pork as a part of his players' diets. Recently, he decided that if red meat and pork were not good for his players then fans, staff and visitors should not have it in the stadium, either. "At its worst it means once every two weeks watching a football game without being able to eat red meat... Anybody that really needs it can bring a ham sandwich or something if they wish — that's no problem," Vince said. Dale Vince made a decision consistent with his beliefs and values. The health of humanity, the state of the environment and the suffering of God's animals would be addressed if more businesses made such mindful and caring choices.
