1. South Korea Heavily Criticized
South Korea has been on the spotlight for burying approx. 1 million
pigs alive as an attempt to control the foot and mouth disease outbreak.
The South Korean refusal to vaccinate pigs against the disease has
resulted in a slaughtering cost of £230m as opposed to a mass
vaccination program that would have cost an estimated £63m. To read the

Korea Buries One Million Pigs Alive
It still seems surreal that humanity continues to treat God's animals
as commodities. Burying pigs alive is barbaric and most cruel, showing
just how hardness of heart has become the norm instead of the exception.
What does this example of animal abuse say about human civilization?
What does it say about our morality and consciousness? Have we totally
trumped ethics and compassion for the pursuit of power and profit? I
think that humanity is capable to make a complete turn and to search
within to find those traits innate in us that have been buried by a
consumerist society, hungry to satisfy every desire, seemingly at any
cost. It’s important to note that most people would not support South
Korea’s actions, but by supporting the meat, egg and dairy industries,
they are supporting similar atrocities against God’s animals. Following
Christ's teachings of compassion, mercy, love and peace, can lead us to
a mindful and fulfilling life as good stewards of God's Creation.
2. Famous Quote
"I looked at all the caged animals. . . the cast-offs
of human society. I saw in their eyes love and hope, fear and dread,
sadness and betrayal. And I was angry.
"God," I said, "this is terrible! Why don't you do something?"
God was silent for a moment and then He spoke softly.
"I have done something. . .
I created you."
~ Jim Willis 1999, Humanitarian, Author of "The Animal's Savior" and
"How could you?"
3. Ballot Initiative Launched in Washington State
Following in the footsteps of Florida, Arizona and California, Farm
Sanctuary has joined with HSUS and citizens in Washington State to
launch an initiative effort to prevent the exploitation of egg-laying
hens. Approximately 280 million hens live in battery cages so small that
each bird is given less space than an 8 ½ by 11 inch sheet of paper. As
a result, these animals can barely move and are unable to engage in
basic natural behaviors, for which they suffer both physical and
psychological disorders. To read the article please search online for
Ballot Initiative Launched in Washington State
Little by little there have been some improvements in the way God’s
farmed animals are treated. Hopefully, the people in Washington State
will realize that egg-laying hens suffer tremendously for the sake of
profit and taste of those who support this industry. Even better, if
more people decided to avoid egg consumption for ethical, health and/or
environmental reasons, much suffering would be reduced in God’s
Creation.
4. Bible Verse
(RSV) 1 John 3:11
For this is the message which you have heard from the beginning, that
we should love one another.
Our Christian Faith is grounded on the core values of Christ's
teachings of compassion, mercy and love. We believe God is Love. And
since we are made in the image of God, we share that essence of love,
which we are called to reflect onto all Creation.
5. Interview with Kathy Freston
John Heilpern, contributing editor to Vanity Fair, writes
about his lunch with former model Kathy Freston, vegan and best-selling
author of the Quantum Wellness series. Freston shares with him
how the picture of a cow being dragged to slaughter changed her life
forever and how she wants to share with others that a vegan lifestyle is
attainable and joyous. To read the article please search online for

Kudos for Kathy Freston for raising awareness on the inherent cruelty
of animal agriculture and also on the many benefits of a plant-based
diet for all of God's Creation: humans, animals and the environment.
6. This Week’s Video – Farm to Fridge
Mercy for
Animal's new film titled Farm to Fridge, is a
powerful 12-minute video that takes you on an eye-opening exploration
behind the closed doors of the nation’s largest industrial poultry, pig,
dairy and fish farms, hatcheries, and slaughter plants revealing the
unseen journey that animals make from Farm to Fridge. Narrated by
Oscar-nominee James Cromwell, this film is guaranteed to change the way
