1. A Challenge to the Republican House of Representatives
A very well-written editorial on The Washington Post addresses the negative consequences that government dairy subsidies have had on the health of Americans. The US government encourages people to eat more cheese and to drink more milk, highlighting the supposedly health benefits of dairy, however scientifically proven to be false. Obesity and other health problems have been linked to the increasing intake of animal products. Therefore, a new challenge has been issued to the new House of Representatives: stop the dairy subsidies and let the dairy industry pay for their own advertisement. 3. 7-Eleven Offers Vegan Choices
If you are vegan and live in New York then this is good news for you: store chain 7-Eleven now offers 6 vegan items in 8 of their locations in NYC. According to Margaret Chabris, 7- Eleven director of corporate communications, "There was demand in the New York and Philadelphia area, not only from our customers but from our employees and franchisees, some of whom are vegetarians." If these items sell well then stores around the country might start offering them. This is a perfect example that companies will offer what their customer ask for. If more of us, people on plant-based diets, ask stores and restaurants to carry/offer vegan food they are likely to do it.

God loves us and forgives our shortcomings. Also, God calls us to reflect His/Her love onto all Creation. Love and forgiveness go hand in hand; therefore, we are also called to forgive our brothers and sisters in Christ.
5. Bird Flu News
A 59-year-old woman has become the first human case of bird flu in seven years in Hong Kong. Her illness was diagnosed as influenza A (H5), a variant of bird flu and it was unclear where she had contracted the disease as she did not have any contact with live poultry and did not visit farms. What goes around comes around. Humanity has caused tremendous misery to God's animals and continues to do so. We can not be so naïve and believe our actions do not have consequences. Factory farms are certainly the perfect vessels to create viruses like the ones causing bird flu and swine flu. By showing compassion and mercy to God's animals we create a healthier and more harmonious planet.
