1. Fish Oil or Algae?
DHA or Docosahexaenoic acid, also known as omega-3 fatty acids, has
been attributed to maintaining memory function and preventing dementia.
DHA is know for being present in fish, but a more sustainable way to
obtain it is from certain algae. Dr. Oz, who was a featured speaker at a
luncheon in New York City titled “Beautiful Minds: An Assessment of the
Nation’s Brain Health,” recommends vegetarian DHA over fish oil. One
company that manufactures the algal form of DHA is
DEVA. To read the full article

Humans need to think about their food choices as they affect all of
God's Creation: humans, animals and the environment. Since industrial
fishing is depleting our oceans, a better choice to obtain DHA is from
algae. Not only would we be alleviating animals suffering, but also
helping restore the environment.

3. Meat-Based Diet Kills at Least 45,000 People in
the UK Every Year
According to a new study by the Oxford University's heart unit just
lowering meat consumption in the UK would prevent about 45,000 premature
deaths a year. Researchers concluded that reducing meat intake would
prevent 31,000 deaths from heart disease, 9,000 deaths from cancer and
5,000 deaths from strokes each year. Consumption of meat products has
been conclusively linked to colon cancer and heart disease. To read the

It is no surprising that, when we cause misery to other creatures and
we are driven by taste and profit, disease and suffering result. When we
make compassionate and responsible choices, we participate in the
healing and reconciliation of God’s Creation.
4. Bible Quote
(RSV) 1 Corinthians 1:4-5
“I always thank God for you because of his grace given you in Christ
Jesus. For in him you have been enriched in every way - in all your
speaking and in all your knowledge.”
The apostle Paul encountered many hardships and obstacles and yet he
found reasons to give thanks for them. Paul's example reminds us that
every person and situation is something to be cherished, even if
problematic.
5. Soy Decreases Breast Cancer Recurrence in Women
According to a new study published in the Canadian Medical
Association Journal, women consuming the most soy products have a lower
risk of breast cancer recurrence. Researchers observed the amounts of
soy isoflavones consumed by 524 women with breast cancer. Postmenopausal
women who ate more than 42.3 milligrams of soy isoflavones daily had a
33 percent decreased risk of recurrence, compared with women who ate
less than 15.2 milligrams per day. To read the article please search
