1. The Facts about the Atkins Diet
Dr. Dean Ornish, Medical Editor for The Huffington Post, Founder and
President of the Preventive Medicine Research Institute and Clinical
Professor of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco,
explains the facts surrounding the Atkins diet vs. a well-balanced
plant-based diet. He refers to recent study published in the Annals of
Internal Medicine from Harvard which comprised 85,000 women who were
followed for 26 years and 45,000 men who were followed for 20 years.
Researchers found that all-cause mortality rates were increased in both
men and women who were eating a low-carbohydrate Atkins diet based on
animal protein. However, all-cause mortality rates as well as
cardiovascular mortality rates were decreased in those eating a
plant-based diet low in animal protein and low in refined carbohydrates.

As stewards of our bodies, temples of the Holy Spirit, we should aim
to a diet that is healthy, compassionate and sustainable.
2. Famous Quote
"Whether industrialized societies… can cure themselves of their
meat addictions may ultimately be a greater factor in world health than
all the doctors, health insurance policies, and drugs put together."
~ T. Colin Campbell, PhD, lead scientist of the China Study
3. New BSE Case in The Netherlands
A new case of BSE has been found in a cow from a farm in Tilburg,
Netherlands. "Mad cow disease" or bovine spongiform encephalopathy
generally spreads when the infected meat and bone meal is fed to the
cattle. It also has an effect on humans causing vCJD. To read the full
article please search online for A Case of BSE
Reported in a Farm in Tilburg
Industrial agriculture has manipulated animals to such extent that
new diseases have emerged due to the industry's short-sighted practices.
Cows, herbivore animals, are fed diets that fatten them but also make
them sick. The misery humanity causes to God's animals ultimately also
causes misery to humans.
4. Bible Verse
(RSV) Proverbs 29:25
The fear of man lays a snare, but he who trusts in the LORD is safe.
It is not humans that we should fear as long as we follow Christ's
teachings of compassion, mercy and love. While suffering is part of
everyone's lives at some point, we should stay fixed on God's will for
us.
5. Unsanitary Conditions in Industrial Poultry Farms
This article highlights very clearly the major deficiencies of the
USDA and FDA regarding this year’s egg-recall due to Salmonella
contamination. It also points at the very unsanitary conditions
battery-caged hens are subjected to, which ultimately affects the
consumers. Although the plants in question that produced the eggs are
being investigated, the USDA stated that the unsanitary conditions in
these farms are very common among industrial poultry farms. To view the
full article please search online for Egg
Inspectors Failed to Raise Alarms
The unsanitary conditions in industrial poultry farms and the
suffering they cause to hens and chicks are unknown by many consumers.
However, due to the latest egg recall the news media exposed these farms
to a certain extent. It is in the consumers’ hands to decide the fate of
these farms by choosing to support compassion and health or cruelty and
disease.
