1. Why Don’t We Care About the Suffering of Fish?
Peter Singer, Professor of Bioethics at Princeton University and Laureate Professor at the University of Melbourne, explains the systematic, cruel and massive killing of trillions of fish every year at the hands of humanity. He asks, "Why are fish the forgotten victims on our plate?", and speculates that maybe it is because we think of them as commodities that do not feel pain. However, he also points the growing evidence showing that commercial fishing inflicts an unimaginable amount of pain and suffering. Fish, God's creatures, are thought of as lesser beings that deserve no consideration at the time of slaughter. However, as God's children, we are called to be obedient and therefore follow Jesus' teachings of compassion, mercy and love that apply to all Creation, even fish.

3. Spotlight on Gene Baur
This article nicely highlights the journey that led Gene Baur, Farm Sanctuary's co-founder and president, to raise awareness about the unimaginable suffering farmed animals undergo in factory farms while at the same time rescuing many of these animals. Baur says, "I wholly reject the notion that animals must die for us to live," ... "You actually can live without consuming other animals. Eating plants instead of animals goes a long way toward promoting kindness and sustainability, not to mention good health." Today, Farm Sanctuary is one of the main organizations in the US that fights tirelessly to end factory farming while offering a safe haven to rescued farmed animals in their 2 sanctuaries, located in NY and CA. What a great example is Gene Baur to anyone who wants to expose the victimization of God’s animals! As stewards of God’s Creation, we should also strive to be more compassionate and to lead by example. One important part of this is our diet, which should reflect our beliefs. A plant-based diet accords with Christ’s teachings of compassion, mercy and love.

Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.
There are plenty of temptations to throw us off the path God wants us to follow. However, by trying our best to follow Christ’s teachings of compassion, mercy, love and peace, we can rest assured that we are under God’s wing.
5. Would God Support Factory Farming?
Renowned author Arthur Poletti ("God Does Not Eat Meat") believes that unless humanity stops torturing and murdering God’s animals every day using methods of hideous cruelty, society and the earth’s environment will continue to suffer the misery that comes along with supporting these actions. He refers to issues such as global warming, and the undeniable and unimaginable suffering God's animals undergo. Christians are called to be the “light and salt” of the world, and therefore, should be the leaders in taking a stand against the cruelty to God’s animals and the devastation of the Earth.
