1. The Truth Behind Eating Chicken and Eggs
Bruce Friedrich, Vice President for Policy, PETA, writes about the
awareness that the last huge egg recall brought thanks to the coverage
and exposure given to battery caged hens. Although Friedrich believes
that many people have and will forgo eggs and chicken after learning how
they are treated in factory farms, he also agrees that many more will
continue eating them. Mainly, he believes there are 2 reasons: chicken
meat is healthy for you and chickens are not smart animals. Friedrich
explains why these 2 reasons are untrue while educating the reader on
what amazing animals chickens are. To read the full article please

Lining: A Spotlight on Chickens
Eating chickens should be viewed no different than eating dogs or
cats; however, humans fall prey of speciecism even though there are no
ethical for it. In fact, as stewards of God's Creation we are called to
show compassion, mercy and love to all creatures.

"Teaching a child not to step on a caterpillar is as valuable to the
child, as it is to the caterpillar."

3. Why Eat a Pig and Not a Dog?
It seems that as far as eating is concerned, most people live in a
blissful ignorance. Just in the US, 10 billion land animals are
slaughtered every year for food production. The great majority of these
animals are raised in factory farms, knowing suffering everyday of their
lives. On the other hand, Americans spend incredible amounts of money
and time on their pets. Why the disconnection? What makes a farmed
animal less sentient than a dog or a cat? To read the full article

that different form eating your dog Spike?
Hardness of heart and the rationalization of unethical actions keep
people supporting the animal agriculture industry. As Christians, we
should show compassion and love to all of God’s creatures, not just our
pets. This is what good stewardship is all about.
4. This Week’s Bible Verse
(RSV) Matthew 5:11-12
Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all
kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad,
for your reward is great in heaven, for so men persecuted the prophets
who were before you.
Sometimes, when standing up for our Faith, we undergo persecution and
alienation. However, this verse reminds us that even though times get
hard we need to rejoice in the reward of knowing we are being obedient
to God, and therefore fulfilling our calling.
5. Media Coverage Affects Consumer Choices
What happens when the media covers issues of animal welfare in food
production? Economists looked at media attention given to livestock
issues and developed an index for animal welfare on beef, pork, and
poultry. It turns out that when media attention is given to animal
welfare issues, regardless of the production practices involved,
consumer demand decreases for all meats. In fact, economists say that
over the past decade, pork and poultry demand would be higher, were it
not for media attention to livestock production issues. To read the full
article please search online for Consumers
Spend Less On Meat When Livestock Is In The Media
Thanks to the media, the inherent cruelty of factory farming is being
exposed. The more information the public has, the more likely people are
to make compassionate choices, especially when we assume our role of
stewards of God's Creation.
