1. Dangerous Hormones
In China, like in the US, bovine growth hormones are used to promote
greater milk production in dairy cows. However, little regulation exists
about the use of this hormones and growing new concern about their
safety exists. Female infants in China who have been fed cow's
milk-based formula have been growing breasts and very young girls have
been growing pubic hair. Unfortunately, the culprit seems to be the
hormones given to dairy cows that later enter food production chain.

Disaster from Hormones in Milk Production
It is outrageous that due to the lack of integrity of the
corporations that run factory farms, people are getting sick. There is
plenty of evidence that suggests that the hormones and antibiotics used
in farmed animals are not safe; however, the quest for increased profit
and taste seem to blind both, the producer and the consumer. This is why
it is so imperative that the consumer takes a stand against the very
things the contributing to making us sick. Transitioning to a
plant-based diet helps us take this stand.

"Prevention is better than cure."

3. “Hip” Meatless Mondays
The Meatless Monday campaign is gaining momentum thanks to the
support of public health advocates, chefs and parents who want to reduce
the incidence of heart disease in the population, which is largely due
to the consumption of animal products. Now Meatless Mondays are part of
hospitals, school cafeterias and households, showing that plant-based
dishes can be easy to prepare as well as tasty, healthy and fulfilling.

Campaign Aims to Make Meatless Mondays Hip
It's great that such a successful campaign is extending throughout
the US. Heart disease is wide-spread in this country, yet in most cases
it is easily preventable. Being good stewards of our bodies, temples of
the Holy Spirit, should lead us to adopt a healthy and compassionate
diet that aligns with our Faith.
4. This Week’s Bible Verse
(RSV) Psalm 94:18-19
When I thought, "My foot slips," thy steadfast love, O LORD, held me
up. When the cares of my heart are many, thy consolations cheer my soul.
God's love for us is evident to us in the midst of trouble, when, in
spite of obstacles, we feel comforted and uplifted.

6. This Week’s Video: Egg Recall
On August 20, ABC World News reported on the nationwide egg recall of
close to half a million eggs. Fortunately, ABC focused on the living
conditions of hens on factory farms. Nathan Runkle from Mercy for
Animals (MFA) was featured in the segment where he explained the
unsanitary conditions these hens live in while undercover video taken by
at a farm in Maine that is connected to one of the brands being recalled
was shown. ABC's reporter said "Critics say it's likely not the case and
that there are just a few rotten eggs in the poultry business.
Conditions like these are fairly common."
