1. Dolphins and Whales Decimated by Fishing
Industry
A new report from the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) finds
that industrial fishing is responsible for the death of almost 9 out of
10 toothed whales—including dolphins and porpoises— who are threatened
by entanglement and subsequent drowning in gillnets, traps, longlines,
and trawls.

fishing nets
The number of aquatic animals killed as "bycatch" by the fishing
industry is appalling. Killing and discarding animals raises serious
ethical issues that cannot be ignored. It is up to each of us to support
only industries that honor God's Creation by showing compassion and
reverence to all creatures.
2. Famous Quote
"People get offended by animal rights campaigns. It’s ludicrous.
It’s not as bad as mass animal death in a factory."
~ Richard Gere, American actor
3. Animal Cruelty Might Lead to Criminal Behavior
toward Humans
Throughout the US, state laws that protect pets from abuse have been
passed due to the growing evidence that people who abuse animals often
go on to abuse humans. Diana S. Urban, a Democratic state representative
in Connecticut, who sponsored a bill mandating that animal control
workers and child welfare workers cross-report suspected animal, child
or domestic abuse said, “Animal abuse is one of the four indicators that
the F.B.I. profilers use to asses future violent behavior..." Sadly,
livestock is exempt from such laws and in many states such as Idaho,
farmers and ranchers are pushing a bill that would more clearly
distinguish livestock from pets and would exempt livestock from the
protections afforded pets.

Animal Abuse as Clue to Additional Cruelties
How hypocrite humans are when we offer protection and compassion only
to certain animals according to our benefit. As for animals being
farmed, never before have we abused so many and to such extent! God’s
farmed animals deserve our compassion and mercy just as any other of
God’s creatures.
4. This Week’s Bible Verse
(RSV) Romans 3:23-24
"...since all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, they are
justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption which is in
Christ Jesus,"
Nobody is perfect in this world. Therefore, when confronting our
brothers and sisters with their sins, we should do it humbly and with
love, for it through Christ that we are able to conquer sin.
5. Cameras in Slaughterhouses
The Food Standards Agency in Great Britain intends to set-up a
detailed plan in order to have cameras in every one of the 400
slaughterhouses in the region. Tim Smith, chief executive of this agency
said, “Where we find resistance it is from operators with something to
hide”.

CCTV 'should be installed in slaughterhouses to
ensure animal welfare'
It is not surprising that operators of slaughterhouses don't want
cameras around because they know that animal abuse is widespread and
that food safety is also compromised. Having cameras in slaughterhouses
will certainly reduce the incidence of animal abuse. Hopefully, the
consumer will pressure the meat industry to make this a requirement and
thus help to at least alleviate the pain and suffering of farmed animals
at the end of their lives.
6. This Week’s Video
Fowl Play is a new documentary the exposes the cruelty of the egg
industry. Although this film focuses on the plight of factory-farmed
laying hens through interviews with people who are fighting diligently
to save them and footage from inside egg factory farms, it also lets the
viewer share and celebrate the enduring hope of compassionate people who
work relentlessly in behalf of these hens.
