1. Torture in Slaughterhouses
In this disturbing extract from Jonathan Safran Foer's "Eating
Animals", the reality of the barbaric cruelty in slaughterhouses in the
US is revealed. No wonder why it’s virtually impossible to visit one of
these places. Please search online for

The callousness of the meat industry knows no limits and it is hardly
impossible to think of even more cruelty than one going on in
slaughterhouses. How much has humanity veered off from the compassion
and mercy that Jesus' teaches us? When is it that we'll realize with
complete horror the terrible injustices committed against God's farmed
animals? Our hope resides in finding within ourselves that essence of
love that we all share.
2. Famous Quote
"There will come a time...when civilized people will look back in
horror on our generation and the ones that preceded it: the idea that we
should eat other living things running around on four legs, that we
should raise them just for the purpose of killing them! The people of
the future will say "meat-eaters!" in disgust and regard us in the same
way we regard cannibals and cannibalism"
~Dennis Weaver (1924 –2006), American actor
3. “Humanely Raised” is not “Free of Exploitation”
Stephanie Ernst, a freelance editor and writer, and independent
animal rights advocate, believes the animal rights movement might be
lost in the factory farming turmoil and therefore losing sight of its
essence, which is to bring animal exploitation to an end. Ernst sites
the trendy movement of opposing factory farming by supporting "humane"
animal agriculture such as "free-range", "grass-fed" or "cage-free".
When vegetarians go back to eating animals with not ethical objection
and actually feel good about it, Ernst truly believes we have a problem
that needs to be tackled soon before this trend distorts the
fundamentals of the animal rights movement. To read the full article

Factory Farming, Save the Animal Rights Movement
While animals raised in small family farms tend to have better/less
abused lives than factory farmed animals we should try to remember that
all animals being farmed are sentient beings and God’s creatures. Also,
the fact that most of us don’t need to eat flesh in order to survive
meat-eating poses serious ethical problems.
4. Bible Verse
(RSV) Colossians 3:12
Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassion,
kindness, lowliness, meekness, and patience,
Paul reminds us that we need to strive to be loving, compassionate,
humble and patient. These qualities help us reflect God's love onto all
Creation.
5. Food Inspector Blows the Whistle
Dean Wyatt, a Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) veterinarian,
blew the whistle on his agency earlier this month. Wyatt told lawmakers
that managers at different slaughterhouses repeatedly failed to pay
attention to his warnings about the inhumane mishandling of animals and
that the FSIS did nothing about it. To read the full article please

Once again we are reminded of the callousness of the meat industry
and also of the integrity and bravery of a person who in spite of the
odds decided to do what it right. Wyatt did what his role as a food
inspector required, and as such, we should also act accordingly to our
role of stewards of God's Creation and not support industries that
exploit God's animals.
