1. Researchers Call for Reduction in Meat Consumption
The study published in The Lancet medical journal concludes that a 30
percent reduction in livestock production in major meat-producing
nations and a similar cut in meat-eating, would lead to health benefits
of the people as well as a reduction of greenhouse gases. To read the

Eating 30 Percent Less Meat Good For Health,
Planet
Reducing meat intake has benefits for all of God's Creation. It
reduces animal suffering, helps reduce the rate of many chronic diseases
and helps restore the environment.
2. Famous Quote
"Let every individual and institution now think and act as a
responsible trustee of Earth, seeking choices in ecology, economics and
ethics that will provide a sustainable future, eliminate pollution,
poverty and violence, awaken the wonder of life and foster peaceful
progress in the human adventure."
— John McConnell, founder of International Earth Day
3. Environmental Devastation
James E. McWilliams, associate professor of history at Texas State
University at San Marcos, recent fellow in the agrarian studies program
at Yale University and author of "Just Food" explains in this
wonderfully-written article why animal agriculture is so devastating for
the environment. He says, "[Animal agriculture] is trashing the air,
water and soil; causing more global warming than the transportation
industry; consuming massive amounts of fossil fuel; unleashing the
cruelest sort of suffering on innocent and sentient beings; failing to
recycle its waste; and clogging our arteries in the process...] To read

Bellying up to environmentalism
It's appalling how indifferent people can be to the devastation that
industrial agriculture is causing to God's Creation. Unless we step-up
and take responsibility for our actions, the generations to come will
suffer greatly from our selfishness and arrogance. Transitioning to a
plant-based diet honors God's Creation.
4. Bible Verse - (RSV) Hosea 2:18
“And I will make for you a covenant on that day with the beasts
of the field, the birds of the air, and the creeping things of the
ground; and I will abolish the bow, the sword, and war from the land;
and I will make you lie down in safety.”
God reminds us that our Creator’s ideal is a world or peace and
harmony among all creatures. Christians are called to be good stewards
of all of God’s creation and to participate actively in its
reconciliation. A plant-based diet helps us bring healing into this
world and spread God’s compassion and love.
5. Brazil to Stop More of the Amazon Deforestation
Cattle ranches that are among the chief culprits of the Amazon's
deforestation and Brazil took a step forward in protecting the
rainforest by monitor more than 15,000 cattle ranches by satellite.
These ranches if identified via the satellite images as illegally
claiming forested land to expand their pastures will be unable to obtain
a permit enabling them to transport their cattle to slaughterhouses. To

Brazil Moves to Cut Amazon Destruction by Ranchers
Hopefully these measures to stop the destruction of the Amazon forest
will be enforced. However, as long as factory farms and cattle ranches
keep proliferating, the need to destroy grassland and forests to make
room for grazing animals or to grow crops to feed them will also grow.
It’s the transition to a plant-based diet one way that will help
humanity help restore God's Creation.
6. This Week’s Video: Al Gore Speaks Against Factory
Farms
Although Al Gore has not adopted a plant-based diet, during his
appearance on Saturday Night Live (Nov. 21, 2009), he mentioned the
urgent need to stop factory farming and start using sustainable
agriculture. Hopefully, all his followers will get the idea that factory
farming is a huge environmental issue.
