1. Pigs are Smart
New findings on pig cognition have been published in the current
issue of Animal Behaviour. Researchers present evidence
that domestic pigs can quickly learn how mirrors work and will use their
understanding of reflected images to scope out their surroundings and
find their food. Also pigs have shown to be the quickest of animals to
learn a new routine, from jumping hoops to play videogames with
joysticks, and more. Not surprisingly, they are also slow to forget.

Science is helping us understand how wonderful pigs are. However,
when it has to do with industrial agriculture, pigs are no more than
simple commodities, who suffer unimaginable pain and fear in factory
farms. Hopefully, when more people learn that animals are smart in their
own ways and that they suffer in many ways like us, they will decide to
leave them off their plates and instead transition to a compassionate
plant-based diet.
2. This Week’s Famous Quote
“ human being is a part of the whole called by us universe, a part
limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and
feeling as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion
of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us,
restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few
persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this
prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living
creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.”
~ Albert Einstein
3. Miserable Chickens
Researchers are trying to end the debate between those who think that
egg-laying hens in battery cages live miserable lives due to their
intense confinement and those who think that they are perfectly happy to
be caged. Bruce Friedrich, a spokesman for People for the Ethical
Treatment of Animals, believes banning the cages is a solution to an
obvious problem. He said: "Think about the ... effects of not moving for
up to 24 months," ... "Their bones and muscles waste away and they go
insane."

It seems absurd there are people questioning that battery caged hens
live miserable lives. These hens are deprived from their most basic
God-given instincts and are treated like mere commodities since the egg
industry is driven by taste and profit, and not by ethical behavior.
Unless we show compassion to God's animals we are not following Jesus'
example.
4. Bible Verse
(RSV) Colossians 3:16
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teach and admonish one
another in all wisdom, and sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs
with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
When Jesus' teaching of compassion, mercy and peace dwell in our
hearts, we are able to help our brothers and sisters in Christ to be
more obedient to Gods. With thankfulness in our hearts we need to praise
our Creator.
5. Disturbing Animal Cruelty at Pig Farm
A disturbing video released exclusively to Fox News by the animal
rights group Mercy for Animals (MFA) shows what clearly is animal
cruelty taking place at a swine factory farm, Country View Family Farms,
a division of Hatfield Quality Meats, which is one of the largest pork
producers in Pennsylvania and operates more than 100 pig farms across
Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana. The footage shows injured pigs going
uncared for, pregnant hogs being kept in very small pens, employees
picking up baby pigs by their ears and hind legs and throwing them
between employees and baby pigs being euthanized in carbon dioxide gas
chambers that didn't work properly.

Gruesome animal exploitation is exposed once again. We have turned
our backs to the suffering of God's animals, thereby bringing as farther
from reconciling God's Creation. However, there's always hope that more
people will turn to Jesus' teachings of compassion, mercy and justice by
adopting a plant based diet and honoring God's Creation.
6. Human Rights Violated at Meat Packing Plants
The results of the Nebraska Appleseed report, compiled through
interviews with 455 workers in five communities, have stirred debate and
concern among meat producers and human rights advocates. The report
exposes the humiliating and dangerous conditions that workers suffer in
slaughterhouses where the unrelenting line speed forces them to
slaughter approx. 300 cows per hour. Workers indicate that they are
often injured and that even bathroom breaks are denied.

plant workers say pace brutal
It’s not surprising that the meat industry, which has not
consideration whatsoever for God’s farmed animals, also exploits their
workers. When profit trumps justice and compassion we lose respect to
all of God’s Creation.
