1. Meatless Mondays for Baltimore City Public
Schools
Thanks to the growing awareness for healthier, compassionate and more
sustainable foods, the Baltimore City Public School system has become
the first fully Meatless Monday school system in the U.S. To read the

It's great news for God's Creation that children are being exposed to
a compassionate and healthy diet. Hopefully, more schools around the
nation will follow this important initiative.
2. Famous Quote
“We must fight against the spirit of unconscious cruelty with
which we treat the animals. Animals suffer as much as we do.
True humanity does not allow us to impose such sufferings on them.
It is our duty to make the whole world recognize it. Until we
extend our circle of compassion to all living things, humanity will not
find peace.”
~Albert Schweitzer, The Philosophy of Civilization
3. Tax on Meat
Philosopher Peter Singer suggests implementing a tax on animal
products in order to discourage their consumption such as the taxes on
cigarettes that saved many lives – not only the lives of people who are
discouraged from smoking as much as they would if cigarettes were cheap,
but also the lives of others who spend less time passively inhaling
smoke. According to Singer meat-eaters impose costs on others, and the
more meat they eat, the greater the costs. Meat-eaters raise our health
insurance premiums, increase Medicare and Medicaid costs for taxpayers,
pollute our rivers, threaten the survival of fishing communities, push
up food prices for the world’s poor, and accelerate climate change. To

4. Bible Verse
(RSV) 2 Corinthians 3:5-6
“Not that we are competent of ourselves to claim anything as coming
from us; our competence is from God, 6 who has made us competent to be
ministers of a new covenant, not in a written code but in the Spirit;
for the written code kills, but the Spirit gives life.”
God’s covenant with all creation is one of love and grace. God
enables us to bear witness of this covenant and calls us to be good
stewards of our bodies, animals and the environment.
5. Want Healthy Kidneys? Go Veg!
According to a new study published in the Journal of the American
Society Nephrology (JASN), concludes that a healthy diet helps prevent
kidney stones. Loading up on fruits, vegetables, nuts, low-fat dairy
products, and whole grains, while limiting salt, red and processed
meats, and sweetened beverages is an effective way to ward off kidney
stones. To read the full article please search online for

This is just one more reason to transition to a plant-based diet,
God's ideal; and show good stewardship of our bodies, temples of the
Holy Spirit.
6. This Week’s Featured Video
Watch Jonathan Foer, author of Eating Animals, during his
appearance on the Ellen Show. Foer explains clearly and in a very
articulate way the huge disconnect between how people think farm animals
are treated and how they are really treated, as well as the devastating
effects of animal agriculture on our health and the environment. Please
