How sad it is that once again humans find a way to exploit animals
for profit. When we forget that animals are God’s creatures to whom we
are called to show mercy and compassion, we show disobedience to God,
and cause misery to them and to all of God’s creation.
2. Famous Quote
“The human spirit is not dead. It lives on in secret.... It has come
to believe that compassion, in which all ethics must take root, can only
attain its full breadth and depth if it embraces all living creatures
and does not limit itself to mankind.”
~ Albert Schweitzer, Nobel Peace Prize address, "The Problem of Peace in
the World Today"
3. Interview with Ruby Roth
Ruby Roth, author of the new children's book titled That’s Why We
Don’t Eat Animals: A Book About Vegans, Vegetarians, and All Living
Things shares what compelled her to write the book. She believes that
showing children that animals are sentient beings fosters their innate
sense of compassion toward them.

4. Bible Verse
(RSV) Psalms 63:1
"O God, thou art my God, I seek thee, my soul thirsts for thee; my flesh
faints for thee, as in a dry and weary land where no water is."
We live in a world beset by injustice and suffering; however, our
hope and faith rests in a loving God who cares very much for all His/Her
Creation. Our Creator gives us the strength to live out Christ's
teachings of compassion, mercy and love.
5. Why Is Chicken So Cheap?
When a whole rotisserie chicken at Harris-Teeter costs about the same
price as two bunches of carrots, we should ask ourselves: "How is that
possible?" Chickens, our health and the environment pay the price for
the low price of chickens in the US. Ezra Klein, for the Washington
Post, says: "... I sort of wonder how long we'll allow chicken producers
to compete on low prices derived from incredible cruelty to animals,
exploitation of illegal workers, and taxpayer subsidies to the corn
industry. It's a pretty ugly scene, and the product eventually ends up
on our plates."

The Bible tells us that cruelty to God’s animals is forbidden and
that we are called to be compassionate and merciful; however, chickens
are one of the most abused farmed animals and still we continue to
support such industry. Unless we take a stand for what is right, we will
see no peace in God’s Creation.
6. Six Year-Old Child is Vegetarian for the Love of
Animals
Brooke English, a 6 year-old girl, gave up eating meat when she was 4
because she loves animals. Although her mother eats meat, she's very
supportive of her daughter's diet and agrees that Brooke is "... 100
percent right."

It is often children who teach us very valuable lessons, like the
love for God's animals. It is kids also that society hasn't corrupted
just yet, and their hearts and souls still embrace an innate sense of
justice and compassion that so many adults lost. Let's try to be good
role models for our children; and therefore, be good stewards of God's
Creation.
