1. ADA’s Updated Position Paper on Veg Diets
The American Dietetic Association (ADA), the world's largest
organization of food and nutrition professionals, has updated its
position paper on vegetarian diets. ADA's position reads: "It is the
position of the American Dietetic Association that appropriately planned
vegetarian diets, including total vegetarian or vegan diets, are
healthful, nutritionally adequate and may provide health benefits in the
prevention and treatment of certain diseases. Well-planned vegetarian
diets are appropriate for individuals during all stages of the
life-cycle including pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood and
adolescence and for athletes." It also expands on the evidence-based
review showed a vegetarian diet is associated with a lower risk of death
from ischemic heart disease and the protection of certain cancers.

2. Famous Quote
“It may be possible to incorporate laugher
into daily activities, just as is done with other heart-healthy
activities, such as taking the stairs instead of the elevator. The
recommendation for a healthy heart may one day be exercise, eat right
and laugh a few times a day.”
~ Michael Miller, MD, F.A.C.C., Center for Preventive Cardiology at the
University of Maryland Medical Center
3. FDA to Restrict Antibiotic Use in Livestock
The Union of Concerned Scientists, estimate 70 percent of all
antibiotics sold in the United States are used on food animals in order
to promote weight gain or more efficient feed consumption. This overuse
of antibiotics is thought to be the major cause for antibiotic
resistance in humans. Now, the Food and Drug Administration wants to put
restrictions on the use of antibiotics so they are used on livestock
only to cure or prevent disease and not to promote growth.

FDA would limit antibiotic use in U.S. livestock
In factory farms, animals are raised in such stressful and confined
environments that without antibiotics they probably would not make it to
the slaughterhouse. The meat industry has abused the use of antibiotics
for profit purposes and has not only caused much misery to God's animals
but also has put human health at risk. While reducing antibiotic use in
livestock would likely benefit human health, farmed animals will
continue to endure miserable lives. We can show compassion to God's
animals and benefit our health by adopting a plant-based diet.
4. Bible Verse
(RSV) Psalm 119:93
"I will never forget thy precepts; for by them thou hast given me life."
God gave us rules in order to live a fulfilled life among the rest of
creatures. Regardless of living in a fallen world, we should seek
obedience to God in order to glorify God and live with plenitude.
5. Scientists Say to Avoid Animal Products
According to the latest statistics, animal products seem to be one of
the major causes of death in the US since they contribute to heart
disease, obesity and certain cancers, among other chronic diseases. This
article deals with the most common foods that scientists and
nutritionists advice to limit or restrict in order to stay healthy. Dr.
Richard Lacey, a prominent microbiologist and BSE (mad cow disease)
researcher said: “There is now an overwhelming scientific and medical
case for avoiding the consumption of meat and meat products despite the
government’s attempts to persuade us otherwise.”

Scientists speak out on certain types of animal
protein foods to avoid
God has provided us with a vast variety of plant-based foods that are
not only tasty but healthy. By choosing a vegetarian diet we are being
good stewards of our bodies; and therefore, we are showing obedience to
God.
6. Ebola Virus in Pigs
Factory farms are the perfect melting pot when it comes to viruses
and it seems now we have to be concerned of yet another virus in pigs
that could affect humans. Researchers have found various strains of the
Ebola virus in pigs in the Philippines and are concerned these viruses
might get in the human food chain. Ebola was also detected in farm
workers who tend to the infected pigs, which means it’s likely that the
virus had been transmitted from swine to humans, and vice versa. The US
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say that this current strain
of the virus is not of the same variety as the one which caused
outbreaks of hemorrhagic fever in the early 90’s, and at present there
is no serious cause for concern.
