1. Mushrooms Decrease Risk of Breast Cancer
According to a study conducted in China, where researchers analyzed
dietary records from more than 2,000 pre- and postmenopausal women with
breast cancer and a group of matched healthy controls, the intake of
fresh mushrooms and dried mushrooms decreased the risk of breast cancer.
An additional protective effect was seen when mushrooms and green tea
were both consumed.

2. Famous Quote
“It is incredible how much
prejudice has been allowed to operate in favour of [flesh] meat, while
so many facts are opposed to the pretended necessity of its use.”
~ Philippe Hecquet (1661-1737), medical reformer.
3. Red Meat Dangers
Red meat has been linked to many diseases including cancer and heart
disease. Researchers from the National Cancer Institute looked at the
records of more than 500,000 people aged 50 to 71 who filled out
questionnaires on their diet and other health habits and found out that
the heaviest meat-eaters were more likely to die over the next 10 years
than the people who ate the least amount of meat. The team also noted
that meat contains several cancer-causing chemicals, as well as the
unhealthiest forms of fat.

A plant-based diet was originally prescribed by God when there was no
disease or violence on Earth. Our world now, plagued with disease,
violence and greed could benefit so much from a return to a healthy,
compassionate and God-honoring plant-base diet.
4. Bible Verse - (RSV) Colossians 1:27-28
To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles
are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the
hope of glory. Him we proclaim, warning every man and teaching every man
in all wisdom, that we may present every man mature in Christ.
This verse reminds us that Christ lives in each of us. Every gesture
of love, act of compassion, and humble service is a reflection of Christ
in us. Let us be reminded of this every day so our lives become
witnesses of Christ's love, compassion and mercy.
5. Good News for Vegetarians
In an Australian study of a group of strict vegan Buddhist nuns, the
bone density among the 105 nuns, who live in temples and monasteries
across Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City, was found to be the same as
non-vegetarian women matched in every physical respect. Professor Nguyen
and Dr Thuc Lan said the study shows how fruits and vegetables are
likely to have positive effects on bone health.

As Christians, we should treat our bodies with most reverence
reminding ourselves that they are the temples of the Holy Spirit. The
book of Genesis reminds us that God's ideal diet for us is a plant-based
one, which shows good stewardship to all of God's Creation.
6. Swine Flu and Factory Farms
Dr. Michael Greger, director of Public Health and Animal Agriculture
in the farm animal welfare division of The Humane Society of the United
States (HSUS), focuses his work on the human health implications of
intensive animal agriculture, and in this article explains why factory
farming is the perfect recipe to breed diseases. The swine flu virus,
causing alarm worldwide, is a great example of the devastating
consequences of raising animals for food in massive concentrations and
crowed spaces.

The way we treat farmed animals does not honor God in any way.
Causing misery to God's animals causes misery to us as well. When we
abuse the power we have over Creation we are miserably failing as
stewards of God's Creation.
