1. Cattle Drives Amazon Deforestation
According to a study produced jointly by environmental groups and the
soy industry, cattle ranchers are responsible for most of the
deforestation in the Amazon forest. The study's results indicate that
only 12 of 630 sample areas deforested since July 2006 -- or 0.88
percent of 157,896 hectares (390,000 acres) -- were planted with soy. On
the other hand, nearly 200 were converted into pasture land for cattle.
Brazil is the world's biggest beef exporter and the second-largest
exporter of soy.

Animal agriculture is one of the major culprits that degrade our
environment by polluting soil, water and air; destroying forests; and
creating greenhouse gases. Unless humanity chooses to transition to a
plant-based diet, the Earth that God's so lovingly created will be left
in ruins.
2. Famous Quote
Because we don't think about future generations, they will
never forget us.
~ Henrik Tikkanen (1924-1984), Swedish-language Finnish author and
artist.
3. Going Vegetarian for a Day
What would happen if everyone in the US goes vegetarian for one day?
The startling results show that about 100 billion gallons of water would
be saved, (enough to supply all the homes in New England for almost 4
months), 1.5 billion pounds of crops otherwise fed to livestock could
feed the state of New Mexico for more than a year and 4.5 million tons
of animal excrement would no be around to pollute the environment.

one day
Adopting a plant-based diet honors God by showing compassion and
reverence to all creatures, to our health and the state of the
environment.
4. (RSV) Romans 1:20
Ever since the creation of the world his invisible nature, namely,
his eternal power and deity, has been clearly perceived in the things
that have been made. So they are without excuse;
God's glory can be seen all around us. In every rock, every plant,
every animal, every planet... in each of us. The vastness of God's love
and deity are obvious in all Creation, so that no one can deny it.
5. Takoma Park, MD Vegetarian Week
Bruce Williams, Mayor of Takoma Park, MD signed a Proclamation
officially declaring April 24 through April 30, 2009 as Takoma Park Veg
Week. This proclamation encourages residents to choose plant-based foods
as a way to help protect the planet, their health, and animals.

How encouraging it is that a Mayor recognizes the many benefits of a
plant-based diet! Lets hope that many more government officials learn
from the example and encourage more people to choose veg options.
6. Atlantic Blufin Tuna Close to Extinction
According to the conservation group WWF overfishing will wipe out the
breeding population of Atlantic bluefin tuna in three years unless
catches are dramatically reduced. This fish is a favorite of sushi
lovers, but growing numbers of restaurants and retailers including
Carrefour's Italian supermarkets are boycotting it.

Humanity’s greed it’s creating havoc in God’s Creation. The marvelous
aquatic creatures that God so lovingly created suffer tremendously and
are driven near extinction. The time is running out to turn things
around and step up to the responsibility of carrying out our sacred
calling of being good stewards of God’s Creation.
