1. New Legislation Introduced to Ban Tail Docking
in Dairy Cows
California Senate Majority Leader Dean Florez has introduced
legislation, SB 135, to ban tail docking of dairy cows, except "during
an individual treatment, emergency or operation, if the treatment or
operation is performed by a veterinarian for veterinary purposes" with
proper anesthesia. The move was praised by the Humane Society of
America, who stated the practice of routinely amputating portions of
dairy cows' tails-without any painkiller-is already banned in several
nations.

cows happier
It's good news for God's Creation every time an effort is made to
alleviate the suffering of God's animals. It is our hope that this piece
of legislation passes and that it is adopted by other states.
2. Famous Quote
“I expect to pass through this world but once; any good thing
therefore that I can do, or any kindness that I can show to any fellow
creature, let me do it now; let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall
not pass this way again.”

3. HSUS New Agenda
The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) has released their new
agenda which includes those 100 items that it plans to push for with the
new Obama Administration. Many items on this agenda focus on alleviating
the suffering of factory farmed animals, such as humane poultry
slaughter and greater downer animal and slaughter plant oversight.

4. (RSV) 1 John 3:11
For this
is the message which you have heard from the beginning, that we should
love one another,
God calls us to show love to everybody regardless of who they are or
what they do. While in our fallen state it is quite hard to love in the
perfect way God loves us, we are nonetheless called to try our hardest,
especially with those who we think do not deserve our love.
5. Calf-Dumping in California
About three dozen dead dairy calves were found in eastern San Joaquin
County in January. Farm Sanctuary has offered a $2,000 reward for
information leading to the identification and arrest of the people who
dumped them. Russ Mead, general counsel for the group said, “...
somebody dumped these calves like somebody would dump an old couch in a
ravine in the middle of the night.”

No excuses for calf-dumping!
It is appalling that these calves were considered mere commodities
instead of sentient beings created with love by God. Humanity will find
no peace, and Creation no healing as long as we continue to cause pain
and suffering to any creature.
6. This Week’s Video: Virtual Battery Cage
Take a virtual tour inside a battery cage to help you visualize this
extreme and unnecessary intensive confinement system from the
perspective of one of its victims. It is a great tool to share with
family and friends! Please visit http://www.animalvisuals.org/ .
