1. More US Horses Slaughtered Abroad
Since U.S. horse slaughter plants were closed last year, the number
of horses exported for slaughter has risen substantially. These “killer
horses” are subjected to tremendous abuse during transport to Mexico and
Canada. Stacy Segal, a horse specialist at the Humane Society of the
United States, said "They're jammed onto trailers with no regard for
breed, size, age, temperament or sex and get no feed or rest."

The atrocities God’s animals suffer in our hands are an offense to
our Creator and do not reflect the reverence and respect we should have,
as stewards of God’s Creation, for our fellow creatures. Unless we
transition to a plant-based diet and stop supporting the industries that
exploit God’s animals, there will be no harmony and healing on Earth.
2. "The same
questions are bothering me today as they did fifty years ago. Why is one
born? Why does one suffer? In my case, the suffering of animals also
makes me very sad. I’m a vegetarian, you know. When I see how little
attention people pay to animals, and how easily they make peace with man
being allowed to do with animals whatever he wants because he keeps a
knife or a gun, it gives me a feeling of misery and sometimes anger with
the Almighty. I say ‘Do you need your glory to be connected with so much
suffering of creatures without glory, just innocent creatures who would
like to pass a few years in peace?’ I feel that animals are as
bewildered as we are except that they have no words for it. I would say
that all life is asking: ‘What am I doing here?’"
~ Isaac Bashevis Singer (1904 - 1991), Newsweek interview (October
16, 1978) after winning the Nobel Prize in literature
3. Aviagen Turkey
Abuse
Aviagen has announced that several employees, including a supervisor,
have been fired after People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA)
released a video in November showing workers punching, kicking and
beating live turkeys. PETA is urging authorities to prosecute the
accused.

There is no excuse for the abuse that God's farmed animals suffer in
our hands. The food industry treats these animals as mere commodities
with no regard to their needs. Hopefully, more people will become aware
of this widespread exploitation and choose to transition to a
plant-based diet that honors all of God's Creation.
4. (RSV) Ephesians 5:1-2
Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved
children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for
us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
We are called to be obedient to God, who made us in His image of
Love. Therefore, showing love to all creatures is honoring and
glorifying to our Creator.
5. European Pig Industry Abusive and Cruel
An investigation into the European pig industry by Compassion in
World Farming (CIWF) in Germany, Hungary, the Netherlands, Spain and the
UK has revealed “horrendous conditions” all throughout. A CIWF
investigator reported, “It’s horrifying to imagine that most of the meat
sold in the supermarkets, restaurants and that we see in daily life
[coming from animals] is being kept in these conditions.”

Sadly, farmed animals raised for food throughout the world suffer
unimaginable pain and fear. As Christians, we need to ask ourselves:
would Jesus approve the horrors of factory farming? Does the way we
treat God's animals follow Jesus teachings of compassion and mercy?
6. Survivor Pig Voted the Most Popular
Animal in China
The animal voted most popular in China is a pig who survived a 7.9
magnitude quake 36 days buried in the rubble by eating charcoal and
drinking rainwater. The report in the weekend edition of the China Daily
refers to the pig "who moved China" and "vividly illustrated the spirit
of never giving up."

It is so ironic that on one hand pigs are abused and tortured in
factory farms every day without any regard for their lives, while on the
other hand, the pig in the above article is recognized for his strong
will to survive. Once we stop seeing God's farmed animals as mere
commodities, then we might be able to see the magnificent creations they
are.
