1. Vegetarians Are on the Right Path
Yvonne Bishop-Weston, founder of London based Foods for Life
Nutrition clinics, encourages people to investigate the benefits of
eating a plant-base diet. She emphasizes on the findings of researchers
from the University of Wisconsin-Madison who revealed in the journal
Cell that a diet with too many nutritionally empty calories – the
typical Western diet -- can lead to metabolic inflammation, which in
turn could lead to many chronic, obesity-related metabolic disorders
that are so common today.

2. Famous Quote - Buddha
“Every human being is the author of his own health or disease.”
~ Buddha (Hindu Prince Gautama Siddharta, the founder of Buddhism,
563-483 B.C.)
3. Health Tip: Eat
Prunes
Researchers at the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State
University found that antioxidants in dried prunes increase bone
formation in animals, and therefore suggest that eating prunes could
benefit people at risk of osteoporosis. Moreover, prunes have more
protective antioxidants than any other fruit that may help combat
chronic diseases, including cancer, heart disease, diabetes and
dementia. Wrinkles? Eat prunes! In a large study, elderly people who ate
the most prunes, apples, vegetables, olive oil, fish and legumes had
fewer wrinkles and less sun-damaged skin than those who ate lots of
meat, butter and milk products.

4. (RSV) 2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore, if any one is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has
passed away, behold, the new has come.
Just the way the New Year is an opportunity to start from fresh, God
allows us to be new creations when we witness to the love, peace and
compassion of Jesus Christ. May this New Year bring hope to all Creation
through our obedience to God.
5. A Plan to Eat Less Meat and Be Healthy
Mark Bittman, in a Readers Digest article, shares his own experience
on adopting a healthier diet that he calls "The anti-girth, pro-Earth
eating plan for busy, real people." He tells the story of his struggle
with excess weight and related health problems (high cholesterol,
diabetes) and how he found the road to recovery by decreasing
dramatically his intake of animal products and eating healthy
plant-based foods.

6. What Schools Feed Children
Michael Markarian, president of the Humane Society Legislative Fund,
a social welfare organization that lobbies for animal welfare
legislation and works to elect humane-minded candidates to public
office, expresses his concern and outrage about the cruel and unsanitary
slaughter of farmed animals whose meat is later on fed to our children
at schools throughout the US. One of the most worrisome aspects of the
food industry is the fact that U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Office
of Inspector General (OIG) concluded in last week's report that "there
was an “inherent vulnerability” for handling violations to occur and not
be detected by USDA inspectors because the agency does not provide
continuous surveillance of all areas in a slaughter establishment."
