Dan L. Gralian, President of the Nevada Cattlemen's Association, shares his outrage about the “downer” cows being abused by employees of the four slaughterhouses under investigation thanks to the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS). He says that people in the cattle industry need to take a look at their own operations and see what they may need to do to improve their livestock handling facilities. Due to the increased number of cases of BSE or mad cow disease in Europe, the European Union (EU) banned the use of meat and bone meal (MBM) in cattle feed in 1994. 5. South Korean Fear Over US Beef:
After the 40,000 people march against US beef in South Korea over fears of BSE (mad cow disease), the South Korean government has twice delayed resumption of the imports and has requested that cattle age 30 months or older not be sent.
